This Week:
Four new arrivals this week:
A Touch of Evil is the new game from the makers of Last Night on Earth. This is a fun "monster-hunt" which has up to 8 players all playing the past of different heroes, wandering round the town of Shadowbrook and then trying to find and track the evil monstrous villain back to his lair and then kill him. A unique thing with this game is that you can play it competitively, where each player is trying to be the one who destroys the villain, or cooperatively, where the players all work together to destroy the (much stronger) baddie.
We've had a couple of new offerings from GMT Games: Clash of Monarchs is quite possibly the most comprehensive game around based on the Seven Years War in Europe from 1756 to 1763. The scenarios in the game range from 1 to 6 hours, but a whole campaign game will keep you occupied for a massive 16 to 18 hours.
And Successors takes us back to 323BC and the death of Alexander the Great. Just who should inherit his considerable Empire? Players take on the role of a couple of his generals as civil war breaks out and each general is trying to grab as much land as possible, while staying in the good books of the royal family and Alexander's true heirs.
And finally this week .... another new version of Monopoly! Monopoly - Here & Now: The World Edition is a global version of the game, with the 22 cities included in this one voted for online all over the World. The game also comes with a variety of houses and hotels from around the World, as well as a random selection of tokens from a possible 24. And .... just for those that don't like maths or can't be bothered to think while playing games, it also comes with an electronic swipe-card machine instead of and actual money. But no batteries.
And the re-stocks this week:
In the Year of the Dragon, Yspahan, A Game of Thrones, Descent: Road to Legend, Ticket to Ride: 1910 Expansion, Epic BattleLore, Mystery in the Abbey, Bacchus' Banquet, and N-Tropy are all back in stock.
Last Week:
A whole slew of new arrivals this week:
Leader 1 is a great-looking new cycle-racing game from Ghenos Games, the people that brought you Bolide and Race the Wind. This game doesn't use the "vector" system for movement however, neither does it use any luck. You have to manage your team of riders and decide when you should try and break away from the Peloton. Make good use of your climbers and sprinters, and you may just manage to get one of your guys across the line in first place.
It's Alive is the great monster-building auction game from Jack Pope at Reiver Games. Buy and sell body parts as you try and build the perfect monster, Frankenstein-fashion!
Kogge is an older game, but one that we've just managed to grab a few copies of. Sail from port to port setting up offices and trading goods, trying to stay one step ahead of your competition.
Blokus 3D is actually a remake of the game Rumis, but using the popular Blokus name to get more people interested! A few changes are here though: This version uses plastic blocks instead of wood, but the board does have a really neat built-in turntable, which allows all players equal access to what's going on.
Qwirkle is a great new family game, a little like a cross between Scrabble and Ingenious. Play "words" made up of the same shape (or the same colour), scoring a point for the length of the words (including others that you add to). Simple, great-looking, and a lot of fun.
Flaschenteufel is a clever little trick-taking card game, based on the story The Bottle Imp. Players must follow suit to try and win tricks, but the trumps are based on the number rather than the colour. And card lower than the current value of the bottle is a trump, but the winning trump will also take the bottle and lower its value. Whoever is left with the bottle at the end scores minus points!
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is also a trick-taking game based on a short story by Robert Louis Stevenson, this time perhaps is most famous one! A partnership trick-taking game, where one side is playing and trying to win tricks with the Jekyll cards, and the other side trying to win the Hyde cards. The twist here is that you can force other players to play a card on your behalf, saving your for when you really need them! Win as many of your own cards as you can, including your multipliers, and you'll be well on your way to the points you need.
Handelsfürsten - Herren der Meere (roughly translated as Princes of Trade - Masters of the Sea) is a clever little card-based filler from Reiner Knizia. Play cards to trigger scorings (where you may help others as much as yourself), and then use the special buildings to try and swing things your way.
And Carcassonne: Cult, Siege & Creativity is the latest mini expansion for the excellent Carcassonne. There are 12 tiles in this little box: 6 Cult tiles, 4 Siege tiles, and 2 blank ("Creativity") tiles to allow you to make your own!
A few games have come back in at lower prices:
Blokus, Blokus Trigon, Ingenious, Travel Blokus, Travel Ingenious, Puerto Rico PC Game, and Entdecker.
And this week's regular re-stocks:
Manoeuvre, If Wishes were Fishes, Zombies!!! 2, Zombies!!! 3, Silent War, Hammer of the Scots, Cities & Knights of Catan, Killer Bunnies, Emerald, Meuterer, Piggyback Brigade, Cheeky Monkey, Descent: Altar of Despair, Santy Anno, Keltis, Busen Memo, Carcassonne: Inns & Cathedrals, Axis & Allies: Pacific, Zèrtz, Yinsh, Sac Noir, Bausack, Fische Fluppen Frikadellen, GolfProfi, TurfMaster, MotorChamp, and O Zoo le Mio are all back in.
Coming Soon:
