How to find Shire Games

Thursday 18th February 2010

There were just seven of us in the shop this snowy Thursday night.  We'd talked about a game or two that we wanted to play, and then didn't play any of those ....

Players:

Darren, Mike, Neil C, Nick, Rachel, Richard, Sue

Games Played:

Excape

Six of us were in nice and early .....

Richard:    21
Rachel:    18
Sue:    18
Darren:    16
Nick:    11
Mike:    8

This one became a pretty close fight towards the end.  Well ... For about four of them, anyway. Mike and I were having our own "let me not be last" battle. After many times round with three of them in a winning position, Richard eventually leapt across the line with perfectly timed double "3"s.

Incan Gold

Darren:    34

Mike:    31
Neil:    31
Richard:    31
Sue:    26
Nick:    19
Rachel:    16

We were still waiting to see if anyone else was coming, so we decided on this quickie.  This was the first time I'd played this version of the game, and I can safely say that the Artifacts make no difference to the game at all.  Although this was mainly because we never actually saw one in the whole game!  A good win by Darren in a pretty tight fight.

And now we split into two groups ....

Hansa Teutonica

Neil:    36
Richard:    24
Darren:    22

This went on upstairs while I was busy playing Macao downstairs, and so I know absolutely nothing about it. Not a thing.  Richard had played before, but it was new to the other two.

Macao

Nick:    86
Sue:    79
Mike:    69
Rachel:    54

Another excellent game of this one. And the first time I've actually done quite well! This was a bit of an unusual game, as Sue was rolling a lot of high numbers, which translated into a lot of wares being claimed and then sold. In fact, I think all but two wares were sold in total, and the ships had travelled all the way round the board and back again!  I got a couple of "-3" markers before finally activating most of my cards at the half way stage, but then I had three cards which game me a rather nice 2 gold + 2 points every turn for free, and I soon started to catch and overtake the others. In the end, I had no bonuses at all (apart from a large group in the city) but I was lucky enough to be far enough in front and hang on.  I like this more with each play.

Homesteaders

(Points + Buildings + Bonus)

Darren:    (23 + 19 + 9)    51
Neil:    (25 + 10 + 6)    41
Richard:    (22 + 13 + 5)    40

Again, this one happened upstairs while I was busy showing Mike, Sue and Rachel how to play Macao ... So no further information, I'm afraid.

We dropped down to six for the last game of the night .....

The BoardGameGeek Game

Neil:    137
Darren:    135    (3)
Nick:    135    (1)
Rachel:    131
Sue:    128
Richard:    124

And this was the last game of the night, and very very close it was too.  Rachel did the best from the selling aspect, as she was in front before we started to count our collections.  And then the lead kept changing hands, as it came down to how many "6" games everyone had managed to collect. And Neil just managed to hang on to the narrowest of margins to claim the win ... and he was the only one who hadn't played before!

And that was all we had time for.  Thanks to those that came along ....
