How to find Shire Games

Monday 15th February 2010

And once more we were eleven.  This time it was David who broke the "rule", being number 11 and arriving on his own ....

Players:

Cathy, Darren, David F-F, Haydn, Lesley, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Roj, Sue, Suzanne

Games Played:

There were nine of us in early, and normally we don't have anything that can cater for nine, but luckily I was bringing this back to Rich ....

Apples to Apples

Roj:    4
Rachel:    3
Sue:    3
Cathy:    1
Lesley:    1
Nick:    1
Rich:    1
Darren:    0
Haydn:    0

This was fun, and a bit quicker than I was expecting it to be, which was handy! This was mainly because six of us were pretty rubbish, allowing the other three to all get to 3 cards pretty quickly, and before long Roj grabbed the win.  A really fun little opener ... we were lucky it was here, really.

And then we were eleven ....

World Without End

Rachel:    46.5
Cathy:    44
Lesley:    39.5

Those that didn't get to go to Macao were sent downstairs to Kingsbridge (is the new one set there as well?). Rachel was the only one who had played before, and taught the others just enough to make them competitive without letting them win! This looks like it was a pretty close game ...

And everyone else was off to China ....

Macao (1)

Darren:    79
Haydn:    73
Rich:    41
Roj:    37

Those are some pretty widespread scores! It looks like it came down to a two-horse race between Haydn and Darren, with Darren just edging it.  Roj asked for his money back.

Macao (2)

Suzanne:    70
Sue:    67
David:    60
Nick:    56

This one was a little tighter, although I was slowly losing my grip on the game as it went on.  I have no idea why ... I made sure I was going first in the turn order quite early on, and then stayed there, not doing very well with my first choices of the cards!  Sue and Suzanne were in charge of the dice rolling, which is interesting when you look at the final scores, don't you think?

Ironically, the World Without End game was the first to end ....

Priests of Ra

Cathy:    93
Rachel:    90
Lesley;    49

Wow ... those are pretty high scores, although I don't think I've played this version of Ra with three, so perhaps they're not that unusual. A very tight two-way fight by the looks of it.

Keltis - Der Weg der Steine

(Paths + Stones + Bonus)

Roj:    (18 + 2 + 8)    28
Darren:    (15 + 2 + 3)    20
Haydn:    (8 + 10 + 1)    19
Rich:    (2 - 3 + 7)    6

Roj got his revenge in this one. The less said about Rich's score the better, I think.

We were down to nine, and so we shuffled the groups round a little ....

Alea Iacta Est

Rachel:    46
Roj:    42
Nick:    42
David:    39
Sue:    32

This was a very fast game of this one - We comfortably ran out of re-roll markers, as we kept ending up with loads of people in the Latrine, thanks to people chucking in loads of dice in one go. Rachel did a good job with this one, picking up tons of the "Fortune" tiles from the Temple. Roj nabbed second place off me by having some left over people, whereas I really deserved it for being more efficient and not leaving anyone homeless.

Thunderstone

Darren:    25
Lesley:    20
Haydn:    17
Rich:    16

And this final one I don't know a whole lot about.  We were trying to get these final two games played as quickly as possible, so I didn't really have the chance to nip over and have a look at this one. Oddly, Rich had just bought this today ... I wonder if there's something about coming last in any game you buy and have me carry all the way to the pub.  Maybe I'm putting some sort of curse on them ... ?

And that was closing time once again.  Thanks for coming along everyone - See you next week!
