How to find Shire Games

Monday 12th October 2009

A nice round ten of us in the pub this week ..... an easy number to split into two groups!

Players:

Darren, David F-F, Gordon, Mark P, Mel, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue, Suzanne

Games Played:

Six of us were in early this week ... and someone accidentally forgot the bunny game!

Pickomino

Darren:    9
Nick:    5
Suzanne:    5
Gordon:    3
Rachel:    3
Sue:    0

Well, this was a turn up for the books. Darren and I both doing well at a push-your-luck game while the other (more sensible) people struggled. In fact, I had this game sewn up, but then Darren stole three of my worms right before the end of the game, giving him three extra points and taking three off me! Bah.

And now we were up to ten ....

Peloponnes

(Buildings or Population)

Rich:    (31 or 30)    30
Darren:    (21 or 30)    21
Nick:    (28 or 18)    18
Mark:    (15 or 30)    15
Gordon:    (16 or 12)    12

This was enjoyed by all, and very well played by Rich to come out of it pretty well balanced. I seemed to struggle all the way through the game for resources, never even coming close to having any luxury goods, while some people had far too many of the things. Thanks to a very early earthquake, we all went looking for buildings knowing they were safe. This had the added bonus (for me at least) of not having so much land, which stopped the Tempest having too much effect. Sadly, in the final round, Rich bid first and grabbed the only tile that might have helped me at all ... which was exactly what he needed to do, of course.

Pillars of the Earth and Pillars of the Earth Expansion

Suzanne:    46    (8 gold)
Mel:    46    (2 gold)
Rachel:    43
Sue:    37
David:    31

Sadly, I know nothing about this one. Actually ... that's not quite true - I heard that Suzanne scored something mad like 16 points in the final round, and managed to catch up Mel, who had been leading for the whole game, beating her on the tie-breaker!

Fast Flowing Forest Fellers

Mark:    1st
Gordon:    2nd
Rich:    3rd
Darren:    4th
Nick:    5th

This was a lot of fun, although it did get quite jammed up on the little second board, as we all came over the rapids. Having only played this with two players, I didn't realise quite how busy it was going to get with five of us ... perhaps we should have used some wider boards? A good win for Mark, who managed to squeeze his two guys out of the jam first.

Peloponnes

(Buildings or Population)

Suzanne:    (36 or 27)    27
Rachel:    (24 or 24)    24
Mel:    (19 or 15)    15
David:    (22 or 12)    12
Sue:    (25 or 12)    12

Sadly, another game I really wasn't paying any attention to. A good win for Suzanne, who I don't think had played the game before. It looks like - just as in the other game - people struggled to keep their populations high at the end of the game.

Powerboats

Rich:    20
Mark:    17
Darren:    12
Nick:    11

This was a load of fun, as always. After a couple of races, there was only a couple of points between us, but then Rich went flying off in the final race, and - for most of it - I was right with him, but then I overshot one turn I was aiming for, and left myself in loads of trouble, eventually limping round in fourth place!

And that was all we could fit in this week. Thanks to those who came along ... It was a fun night.
