How to find Shire Games

Monday 7th December 2009

Busy, busy here ... So this will - yet again - be pretty sketchy!  I think we were 12 this week ....

Players:

Darren, David F-F, Gordon, Haydn, Mark H, Mark P, Mel, Paul, Nick, Rachel, Sue, Suzanne

Games Played:

The first eight of us in decided to go dancing. With cows ....

Tanz der Hornochsen

Nick:    0
Mark H:    0
Rachel:    0
Gordon:    5
Paul:    12
Darren:    14
Sue:    18
Suzanne:    20

This was possibly the lowest-scoring game of this one that we've ever seen.  I'm topping the scores, mainly because I didn't score a single point at any stage of the game! Mark and Rachel both set off, but then returned to the start thanks to the happy cows, who were particularly generous this week and stayed around for about half the game! Paul made a pretty miraculous recovery from a terrible start, dropping all the way back from 30-something to end up on 12!

Keltis - Der Weg der Steine

(Paths + Stones + Bonus)

Mel:    (10 + 3 + 10)    23
David:    (13 - 3 + 6)    16
Haydn:    (5 + 6 + 3 )    14
Mark P:    (6 - 3 + 1)    4

Mel nabbed this victory, mainly thanks to all of the bonus points she'd managed to pick up! Mark didn't do very well at all ....

We now split into three groups of four ...

Kingsburg & Kingsburg - To Forge a Realm

Rachel:    58
Paul:    48
Sue:    46
Suzanne:    41

This was Paul's first game of Kingsburg, and I think they added all of the different expansion parts, just to try and confuse him. In fact, looking at the scores, there must have been some expansion parts in there, as 58 is pretty impossible playing the base game!

Steam

Darren:    55
Mark H:    41
Mark P:    37
Gordon:    26

Wow ... there's a bit of a spread of scores there!  I looked over about halfway through, and Darren's white trains seemed to be dominating the Western side of the US map, although I wasn't sure if they were just standing out because they were the brightest.  It turns out I was right the first time!  Not sure what happened to Gordon there ... He's usually up there with the leaders in this one!

Assyria

Nick:    104
David:    94
Mel:    93
Haydn:    90

This was a very interesting game. I had played once before, but it was new to everyone else. In our first game, we'd all concentrated on the immediate points that well-building gives, but in this game I went for Ziggurats. Partly this was because I kept being last in the turn order, and all the best spots for wells had gone! Anyway ... The slow but steady approach seemed to work quite well, as I went from the back in the first reign to looking like I was going to win it during the third reign! A good, close game which we all enjoyed.

After that, we were down to eight players, and re-jigged the groups a little ....

Peloponnes

(People or Buildings)

Paul:    (27 or 18)    18
Haydn:    (18 or 21)    18
David:    (9 or 13)    9
Darren:    (9 or 11)    9

This looks like it was a couple of two-horse races!  Paul and Haydn ended up tied at the front, with Paul taking the win thanks to his other score being a little higher, while David and Darren were battling out for third, which David managed to grab, despite his dodgy record in any game where you have people to look after!

Carcassonne: The City

Mark H:    100
Sue:    97
Rachel:    96
Nick:    81

This was a pretty close race all the way.  Well, if you discount my score that is.  Rachel and Sue conspired and created a massive "housing" area that Mark and I just couldn't get into, whereas Mark picked up a load of points thanks to his Knights patrolling the walls.  I tried desperately to nick points off the others, but was constantly blocked out!

And that was that for another week. Thanks to all that turned up, and see you next week!
