How to find Shire Games

Monday 21st September 2009

Another tricky number, with seven of us in the pub this week ....

Players:

David F-F, Gordon, Martin, Nick, Sue, Suzanne, Tracey,

Games Played:

Four of us were in early, and decided to see how many rounds of this we could get played ...

Coloretto

Suzanne:    35
N
ick:    34
Sue:    22
Gordon:    21

And the answer was one.  Which was a shame, as I was gearing my whole game towards having a spectacular second round and grabbing the win. As it turns out, it was a bit of a split, with Suzanne and I fighting for first, while Sue and Gordon battled not to be last. Gordon and I lost those fights!

And now we were six ....

Excape

Nick:    21
Martin:    19
Suzanne:    13
Sue:    9
Tracey:    3
Gordon:    2

Make a careful note of the date: I don't expect ever to win this game again in the next few years. In fact, I may never bring it again, so that I can be reigning champion for as long as possible. I won this one with a double-three, just as Martin was threatening to grab the victory. Gordon and Tracey struggled to get off the blocks.

Time to split up, and time once more for the same two games to be played .....

Endeavor

Suzanne:    68
Martin:    54
Nick:    46
David:    44

Well ... this is the most comprehensive victory we've seen in this one! I was never really in it, as I spent some early turns occupying cities to stop everyone getting connection bonuses, and then got systematically attacked out of all of them, and - after that - was attacked further just for the fun of it. Martin did a fair amount of attacking, which cost him a lot of men, and meanwhile Suzanne was sitting quietly in the corner, populating the Mediterranean and making a good few connections. We were very well behaved from a slavery point of view, as no one had gone into slavery at all by the time that Suzanne claimed the last Mediterranean card and abolished it! In the end, Suzanne had about as many points on her board as the rest of us, but had another bunch in the cards she had picked up, as well as comfortably leading in points on the map. That'll teach everyone to pick on me and not watch what's going on!

Ad Astra

Sue:    60
Gordon:    59
Tracey:    45

And the other three were off into space for some more colonising and exploration. A close game, which Sue triggered the end of and managed to grab the win by a single point. Helped slightly by Gordon, who at one point played a scoring card for one thing, thinking it was for something else!

And finally, with just three of us left .....

Saint Petersburg with Saint Petersburg Expansion

David:    202
Nick:    190
Sue:    155

This took us a little longer than planned, which meant we ended up keeping the pub open a bit long! Oops. Anyway .... we all thoroughly enjoyed this one, and we were all pretty confident that I was miles ahead and wouldn't be caught. However, with the new rules that every aristocrat over 10 was worth another 10 points, David's huge collection of 14 aristocrats was worth 95 points, which jumped him nicely past my score and gave him a very well deserved victory.

And that took us to well past closing time, so we slunk out apologetically. Thanks to those that came along.
