Monday 17th August 2009
There were just seven of us in the pub this week .....
Players:
Darren, David F-F, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue, Suzanne
Games Played:
Three people were in early, but Sue and I were a little late ....
(Paths + Stones + Bonus)
Rachel:
(22 + 2 + 12) 36
Suzanne: (24 + 3 + 4) 31
Darren:
(19 + 6 + 1) 26
This was a pretty close game, until you had a quick look round to see who was picking up the bonus point tiles! A good win for Rachel, who thought she was going to suffer for lack of wishing stones, but grabbed a couple last minute.
And then we were six, and someone had accidentally *cough* forgotten to bring the stupid rabbit game ....
(Cheques + Cash)
Darren:
(52 + 4) 56
Suzanne: (42 + 9) 51
Sue: (44 + 0) 44
Rich: (38 + 3) 41
Nick: (31 + 4) 35
Rachel: (29 + 4) 33
This went horribly wrong. Luckily, Rachel fared even worse than me, keeping me out of the red. I thought I had a half-decent hand of houses, but the cheques came out in a bad order, and I think I got screwed every time. Meanwhile, Darren picked up some massive cheques with some pretty low houses, and won fairly easily.
We now split into two groups .....
Kingsburg - To Forge a Realm (1)
Rich:
51
David: 46
Nick: 45
Suzanne:
41
You know what? I can't remember much about this one at all. Oddly, Rich and I picked up the exact same pair of extra building rows, and kept them both. Rich had an ability that let him build two buildings early on, which he did, guaranteeing himself all of the "most buildings" bonuses. And one year, the king was happy, giving him a double-bonus; however, this was immediately followed by an unhappy king, who didn't give any points! But the kicker was that Rich gained five bonus points if he built 15 buildings in the game, and - by rolling exactly what he needed in the final round - he managed to do exactly that.
Meanwhile, the other three got the cards out .....
Rachel:
46
Sue: 36
Darren: 35
This game was played using 5 cards from the base set, and five from the expansion. And that is all I know. Really ... I haven't the faintest idea what they were up to. Too busy trying to do well at Kingsburg on the other table, I guess.
And then these three also went to ....
Kingsburg - To Forge a Realm (2)
Rachel:
57
Darren:
47
Sue:
41
Again, I've got nothing. That's a pretty impressive score, but maybe you can get more points in a three-player game. In which case, I'd be pretty embarrassed if I was in Sue's position :)
We mixed up the groups a little .....
Rich:
116
Darren:
83
David:
63
This was one of the first games that Sue and I ever bought ... But Rich had brought this copy along with him and wanted to give it a try. I think they were all new to the game, although I have a sneaky feeling - looking at the scores - that Rich had been practising at home!
Time for an all-time favourite .....
Suzanne:
52
Rachel: 39
Nick: 34
Sue:
26
Suzanne was the only one of us not to have played this before. And the rest of us have played this a lot. Really. Obviously, we just went easy on Suzanne as it was her first time. And we gave lots of advice, too. So we can all consider ourselves winners really.
And a couple of quickies to end with .....
(Paths + Stones + Bonus)
Darren:
(21 + 0 + 2) 23
Rich: (17 + 0 + 0) 17
David:
(8 + 4 + 2) 14
This is s a pretty tough game to score well in. I really must play it again soon, as I quite enjoyed the times I tried it. A good win for Darren in this one.
Rachel:
3
Suzanne:
2
Sue: 1
Nick:
0
I couldn't stop. And my dice were terrible. And Rachel is very lucky.
And that was all we had time for .... which was quite a lot, really! Thanks to those who came along.
Next Monday, Sue and I won't be at the pub, but feel free to come along. And the one after that is a Bank Holiday, so no one will be there then!
