We're having a run of awkward numbers on our games nights, and tonight was no exception, with eleven of us in the pub!
Players:
Darren, David F-F, Gordon, Haydn, Martin, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue, Suzanne, Tracey,
Games Played:
The first five of us decide on this fun little quickie ....
Suzanne:
1
Rich:
2
Gordon: 3
Sue: 3
Nick:
4
Suzanne grabbed the very centre of the board with her very first tile, and never really looked back after that. We all tried to cut her group up, but sadly we all ended up (in front of a fairly large crowd) with more than one group. I spent the longest time with one big group, but I eventually ran out of friendly tiles and had to place a load of loose ones down in the last few turns.
We were up to the full eleven now, so - after debating for a while about how to split up - became two groups of four and a three .....
Darren:
53
Gordon:
50
Rich: 39
Sue:
34
This one is getting a lot of play recently. A good close contest between Darren and Gordon, with Darren just edging it, thanks to those two unconnected cities that earn a couple of points! Sue and Rich were a little off the pace this time, in a game which is usually very, very close.
David:
89
Suzanne:
81
Rachel: 77
Nick:
65
This was an odd game of this one. It took way longer than it normally does, and David even managed to build everything in his supply! I think I over-stressed how important it was to play the scoring cards when you're leading in a particular category, and frightened everyone off from playing them at all! When you consider that the trigger for the last round of the game is 50 points, we scored an awful lot in that final round, with last place (whoever that was) getting sixty-five! A fun game, though, and enjoyed by all.
Haydn:
62
Martin: 52
Tracey: 51
This was a very close game, by all accounts, up until the final round where Haydn - who was the only one to have played before - edged a little in front of the other two.
The game of Ad Astra was still going when the other two had finished. Gordon had to leave, and the other six grabbed the dice ....
Sue:
21
Rich:
15
Martin: 12
Darren: 9
Tracey: 8
Haydn:
6
I don't know a whole lot about this one, although I remember overhearing an awful lot of X-X rolls being made.
We became nine with the departure of Suzanne, and so re-jigged the groups a little for the two final games of the night ....
David:
(6 + 6 + 5 + 6) 23
Tracey:
(3 + 3 + 5 + 4) 15
Martin:
(0 + 3 + 4 + 7) 14
Rich: (5 + 6 + 0 + 3) 14
This game was new to two of the players, so these scores are pretty impressive. We've seen a lot worse. Usually from me!
Rachel:
76
Darren:
74
Haydn: 69
Sue: 65
Nick:
61
This is always a fun and quick game. I got royally done over by everyone (I'm sure I did), although never passing an auction, and therefore never becoming the canal overseer, was probably a very bad idea! Rachel did a pretty good job of convincing everyone to help her, and just managed to edge out Darren.
And that was all we had time for. I seem to have paid for my success the day before at the Bolton Game Day by coming dead last in everything I played this week!
Thanks for coming out .... See you next week.
