Eight of us in the shop this week .....

Players:

Alex, Darren, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Richard, Steve P, Sue

Games Played:

Four of us were in early, but this kept expanding as we tried to set up ....

Dominion / Dominion Intrigue

Mike:    28
Nick:    24
Steve:    24
Darren:    20
Rachel:    20

This ended up being a lot closer than we thought it was. All the talk was that Mike was streets ahead, and so we were all quite surprised when he chose to end it, and he was only a few in front. I thought it was between Steve and Mike, and so I was also quite surprised that I tied with Steve!  And Rachel was pretty shocked that she wasn't last by miles!!

While we were setting up, two more arrived, but we sent them upstairs ....

Keltis - Der Weg der Steine

(Paths + Stones + Points)

Richard:    (35 + 10 + 6)    51
Alex:    (28 + 6 + 14)    48

A pretty close result, thank to Alex grabbing most of the bonus points!

And ....

Keltis - Das Kartenspiel

Richard:    17
Alex:    15

A much lower scoring one, this one. I suspect there may have been the odd minus in this one, although I haven't got the score breakdown.

And now the eight of us split into two groups of four, and played the same game!

Kingsburg - To Forge a Realm (1)

Darren:    49
Richard:    44
Nick:    41
Mike:    35

Another great game of this one ... The expansion really does add loads to the game, most of it very good indeed. The scores ended up quite spread out, considering that we were all pretty much level at the half-way point. Mike went for the old "Town Hall & Embassy" strategy, and did it pretty quickly, which I think goes to show that the focus of the game has changed a little: Now the game is much more about the soldiers and the battles. Mike lost the final fight, which cost him third place, while Darren and Richard both got double rewards from their Manors, and the reward was four points, which gave them eight each and pulled them away in the lead. Darren's remaining four token made the gap a little larger at the end.

Kingsburg - To Forge a Realm (2)

Steve:    39
Sue:    37
Alex:    35
Rachel:    32

This one I know nothing about. Although when you compare the two sets of scores, the downstairs crowd obviously played the game much better than this lot.

Mike had to disappear, so we changed the groups a little ....

Ra - The Dice Game

Rachel:    38
Nick:    27
Sue:    26
Alex:    23

This is a fun Yahtzee-style game, with - almost - exactly the same scoring as the Ra game itself. There's a nice push-your-luck element in there as well, which always goes down well at our games nights - normally because I am so terrible at it. But having said that, I tend to get by ok in Ra .... so maybe that is the only push-your-luck game that I'm any good at! Rachel just couldn't be caught in this one, whereas I was going for monuments and, until we added those points at the end, I actually had less than I'd started with!

Race for the Galaxy

Richard:    45
Steve:    36
Darren:    31

At the same time as Ra, this was going on upstairs. But that is pretty much all I know about it!

And finally .....

Long Shot

Nick:    $230
Steve:    $205
Sue:    $195
Rachel:    $165
Darren:    $155
Richard:    $135

Another fun game of this great little horse race. Another one where the owners triumphed, as mine, Steve's and Sue's horses actually finished in that order. Steve and I also had bets on each other's horses, which cancelled each other out. It always amazes me how the horses can catch up in this game, as the winner - at the half-way stage - had moved a grand total of one space, and was the butt of many jokes. That'll teach them all to laugh.

And that was it for another week. Thanks to those who came out.
