Nine of us in the pub this week. For a little while, anyway ....
Players:
Gordon, Haydn, Mark H, Mark P, Mel, Nick, Rich, Sue, Suzanne
Games Played:
Four of us were in early, and decided on this quickie .....
Nick:
66
Gordon: 65
Sue: 57
Rich: 53
This is always a quick and fun little starter. Full of little moves where you decide to pass and force the next person to do something that they didn't want to do. Good stuff. And this was a pretty close game. Rich went for a massive group in the second half, but sadly didn't get as many fish as the rest of us.
Then everyone else arrived, and we split into two groups .....
Rich:
108
Sue:
104
Suzanne: 103
Mel:
95
This was a very close game. I think it was played with the original tickets, as well as the tickets from the 1910 Expansion. Rich took the longest train bonus, which gave him the win.
Nick:
$4,000
Mark
H: $3,870
Haydn: $3,570
Mark P: $3,090
Gordon:
$2,490
Another excellent experience with this tough economic game. Mark P and I were the only ones who had played the game before (once and twice, respectively), so there was a little learning at the start, as I find it needs a fair bit of explaining if you want the new guys to have a chance, rather than having a "Oh, I see" moment about half way through the game. We all thought Mark H had the game sewn up, as he managed to avoid taking any loans until the very final turn, when he took two to get all his cars produced. And he probably would have won the game, as we looked like we were heading for a massive over-production in economy cars in the final round. But Mark P was last to produce, and he suddenly realised that he was short some cash, and decided to not produce any economy cars, which was a massive relief to the rest of us, as we still over-produced by a couple!
And the rest of the evening was all the same game ....
Game 1 - 5 x Dominion, 5 x Intrigue
Mel:
37
Sue: 37
Suzanne:
21
Game 2 - 5 x Dominion, 5 x Intrigue
Mel:
54
Sue: 52
Suzanne:
47
Game 3 - 10 x Intrigue
Mel:
52
Sue:
50
And that was all we had time for, as the bell rang and we were kicked out!
