Another games night with just six of us. Luckily, the holidays will be over soon and the numbers should go back up.
Players:
David F-F, Gordon, Mel, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
Four of us were in a little earlier ....
(Paths + Points + Stones)
Gordon:
(5 + 1 + 6) 12
Rich: (9 + 3 - 1) 11
Nick: (10 + 0 + 0) 10
Sue: (8 + 1 -
4) 5
This is a very tight game with four players ... maybe even more so than when playing Lost Cities with two. I think we all only started two or three paths, and had trouble finishing them! Gordon went early and quickly for the stones, which proved to be a very good idea as he took all of the middle ones (i.e. the easier ones to collect). And that turned out to be exactly the right thing to do ... as the 6 points he got for his four stones was just enough to swing the game his way.
Sue:
6
Nick:
2
Mel: 1
Gordon: -1
Rich:
-2
And then Sue got revenge in this fun little filler, which we played while waiting for David. Some successful pointing at other people an claiming that they were winning took place as well. Hm.
We decided to stay in a group of 6, despite a lack of 6-player games in all our bags! But we did have this one .....
Rich:
$34,800
Gordon: $30,800
Nick:
$29,000
Mel: $19,700
David: $16,000
Sue: $10,100
This one doesn't get played enough, really, in my opinion. I really enjoy it, but then I suppose I'm a bit of a maths fan anyway! Gordon was a little unlucky early on in the game, as he triggered a couple of mergers that he thought he would benefit from, when instead it turned out that Rich and I actually came out of them best. And then while Rich and I carried on trying to make the most of investing in companies that were about to get taken over, Gordon switched to collecting shares in the big companies. When it came to counting up, the "largest shareholder" bonus he got was enough to take him past me, but not quite enough to get him close to Rich's massive total.
Gordon had to leave, which left the five of us enough time for ....
Mel:
45
Rich:
30
David: 28
Nick: 22
Sue:
21
Mel dominated this one pretty much from start to finish. I decided early on to go for Pharaohs and try and earn 15 points from them, but so many appeared in the first round, that I got overhauled by Mel in round one, and she stayed in front for all three. The rest of us fought for what we could get (although in my case, that was very little), but we were never close to catching Mel. I think I would have come last if it wasn't for Sue losing the 5 points at the end.
And finally ....
Nick:
675
David:
510
Sue: 400
This is an excellent little dice game, and one that is perfect for the end of the evening in the pub, because you can play it even after several pints of beer! In fact, looking at those scores, I would hazard a guess that you get better at it the more beer you've had!
And that was it for another Monday. Thanks to those that came out, and see you next week.
