A quiet return after the holidays with just six of us in the shop this week ....
Players:
Darren, Dave F, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Sue
Games Played:
We all kind of appeared at the same time this week ....
Darren:
28
Nick: 22
Dave:
17
Roj: 9
Sue: 9
Rachel:
5
This is a fun racing game, and one of those rare things: A race game that actually feels like you're racing. It moves pretty fast, everyone goes off in different directions which is always good for a laugh, and yet that guy who is way out in front can suddenly be caught up by everyone. Darren played this very well, taking several corners pretty wide to keep momentum going, finishing with two first places and a second. Rachel, on the other hand, carefully chose a starting spot in the final race, then banged her boat into an island until it sank.
Rachel:
(42 + 6) 48
Nick: (40 + 6) 46
Dave: (36 + 5) 41
Roj: (28 + 10) 38
Darren: (20 + 5) 25
This
is always a very good game. It was new to everyone apart from me (and Darren, he
thinks), and I tried to stress how important the setting up of the town was to
the whole game. It seems as if Rachel listened for a change, as
it made no difference whether she went first, last or anywhere in-between, she
still managed to find more resources with her workers than the rest of us! I
would just like to point out that I bid two cubes for the privilege of going
first, only to have a new law passed which immediately took the privilege away
from me! Those two cubes would have been two more points. *sniff*
Roj:
51
Dave:
33
Nick: 33
Rachel: 31
Darren:
28
Sue: 28
This was a very odd mix of cards, in a way. Five from each set, but no attack cards and plenty of extra actions and extra buys. So the game played pretty fast. While Dave and Sue grabbed early Provinces, which made three of us panic and start to hunt out our own Provinces, someone (namely Roj) was hoovering up Duchies and then grabbed a bunch of Dukes to populate them. At the end of the game, his Dukes were worth 6 points each, and he'd absolutely wiped the floor with the rest of us.
And finally ....
Sue:
38
Roj:
24
Darren: 20
Rachel: 20
Nick: 4
Dave: 0
And this was a fun way to end the night. Sue didn't start scoring points until the fourth question or so, but then grabbed a whole bunch to pass everyone else and claim victory. Dave and I both played our "Gambit 7" tokens on the final question (these either multiply your score by 7 or reset it to 0) and both failed - although rather oddly, I got the final answer spot on, and therefore earned a few points after having my score reset. If only I'd bet on my own answer .....
And that was all we had time for. Four good games, and we all managed to stay together for the night. Thanks to those who came along.
