Thursday 2nd July 2009
Just seven of us in the shop this week. Still a bit on the warm side ...
Players:
Darren, Dave F, Neil C, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Sue
Games Played:
First four in were quickly into ....
Sue:
(-9 + 6 + 9 + 4) 10
Nick:
(0 + 0 + 4 + 4) 8
Rachel: (1 + 3 + 2 - 1) 5
Darren:
(-4 + 1 + 1 - 1) -3
Always frustrating yet fun, Sue tricked us all this time by starting with a huge minus score, and yet still winning the thing. I toyed with the idea of trying to score zero in every round, but then actually got some points, so I decided to go for the win, which didn't work either.
And then, all of a sudden, we were up to seven players .....
All of us: Won 11-1
For the second time that I can remember, the traitor stayed in the box for a seven-player game. Of course, this would have made it particularly embarrassing if we'd lost, but we were never really in any sort of trouble.
We then split into two groups, so a pre-arranged game could happen ....
(Commissions + Craftsmen + Workshops + Bonus Tiles + Gems)
Dave
F: (51 + 60 + 5 + 30 + 5) 151
Rachel: (60 + 50 + 10 + 10 + 2)
132
Darren: (45 + 50 + 10 + 20 +
4) 129
As per usual, I know nothing about this one. I think it was Dave's first game, but I have a feeling Rachel and Darren had played before.
Roj:
84
Neil
C: 83
Nick: 76
Sue: 74
This was the game that we had arranged to play. We'd all played it once or twice, but a long time ago, and wanted to give it another go so that we could add the expansion next time. Sadly, I got a rule wrong, despite double-checking it ... grrr ... although it's hard to tell its impact, as it may have affected us all pretty evenly. Roj and Neil were smart enough to pick a plan and stick with it, whereas I was just muddling along buying buildings. Sue also had a plan, but sadly it was the same one as Roj's, and he got there first! A fun game, though - despite me messing it up - and enjoyed by all.
Rachel:
101
Dave
F: 99
Darren:
98
Wow! This looks like it was a close one! Three points between the three players. It'd be great if I knew something about the game, but I don't. As per usual.
Roj:
28
Neil:
28
Nick: 23
Sue:
14
This was a game with 5 cards from the original and 5 from the expansion. Neil chose to take the last card from the third pile and end the game, but - unluckily for him - he was the start player, and had therefore taken one more turn than Roj!
We Didn't Playtest This at All
Game 1
Rachel:
Won
Darren
& Dave: Lost at the same time.
Game 2
Dave:
Won
Darren:
Lost
Rachel:
Lost much earlier than Darren.
These games sounded just a little silly. But we knew that, anyway!
Darren:
21
Sue:
14
Rachel: 9
Roj: 2
Dave:
0
Nick: 0
This is a silly game. Nothing but luck, really. Although it is a little surprising that - despite how much this game relies on luck - I never seem to score any points. Hmm.
And that was pretty much it for another week. We're away on Monday, as are a few other people, so I don't think we'll be at the pub. See you here next week instead!
