How to find Shire Games

Monday 29th June 2009

There were seven of us in the pub this week. It has taken me a couple of days to get round to writing up the scores, so I have pretty much forgotten everything. Not that I remembered much in the first place .... The girls played a whole bunch of games that I know nothing about, so this might be pretty much "scores only" ....

Players:

Darren, David F-F, Mark P, Mel, Nick, Rachel, Sue

Games Played:

Dominion: Intrigue

Four of us were in early and decided on a game of this new expansion. We chose a random mix of cards, 5 from the base game and 5 from the new one.

Rachel:    22
Darren:    18
Sue:    9
Nick:    8

Darren and Rachel have been practising with the new cards, obviously. It was Sue's first game with the new ones, and my second, which explains our poor performances. Oddly, with the Saboteur in the game, Rachel lost a couple of Provinces through him ... I hate to think how far ahead she'd have been otherwise!

We now split into two groups. The boys went off to play with cars, while the girls played about ten other games instead!

Automobile

David:    $4,080
Darren:    $3,430
Nick:    $3,410
Mark:    $3,050

Another excellent game of this one, from what I remember. In the first couple of rounds, our car production exactly matched the demand, more by luck than judgement! But in the third round, we managed to over-produce rather heavily, and I got hit for massive losses, along with everyone else. A good win for David in a very tight game ... lots of fun.

Dominion: Intrigue

Sue:    45
Rachel:    44
Mel:    27

Hmm ... Didn't take Sue long to get the hang of the new cards. There's a game that we won't be playing at home!

Pack & Stack

Game 1

Mel:    59
Rachel:    20
Sue:    -37

Game 2

Sue:    70
Rachel:    2
Mel:    -9

I'm not sure, but I have a feeling those last place scores should be "0" - I think the game ends when you get there, so "-37" seems a little steep!

Roll Through the Ages

Sue:    39
Rachel:    30
Mel:    22

Have you noticed that Rachel has come second in every single game they've played ?

Excape

Game 1

Mel:    21
Sue:    12
Rachel:    10

Aha! That's better. In a way.

Game 2

Mel:    21
Rachel:    14
Sue:    5

And finally, Automobile was done, and the remaining five of us played together to end the evening ....

Wildlife Adventure

Rachel:    8
Sue:    5
Nick:    3
Darren:    3
David:    2

This was a lot of fun, although the paths always going off in the wrong direction was very frustrating! Eventually, Rachel finally managed to get the South American expedition go in her favour and play her last animal. You could tell we were all new to the game, though ... There was a "common" animal to be had one step away from Europe, and I think it stayed there for about 10 turns!  Of course, I have a feeling we were supposed to replace that in set-up, but that has only just come back to me now!

And that was all we had time for. A fun night of games.

Now ... I have a feeling there won't be a games night next Monday, as we are away, Suzanne and Gordon are both still away, and also David is missing - He's graduating apparently. He does this every year in July ... someone should break it to him gently that he's really being kept back a year again.
