Another quiet night in the pub this week, with just four of us in playing games. Still ... It makes splitting up the groups much easier!
Players:
David F-F, Nick, Sue, Suzanne
Games Played:
As we waited for David to turn up, we had a quick go at:
(Paths + Stones + Bonus)
Nick:
(15 + 10 + 7) 32
Sue: (21 + 6 +
3) 30
Suzanne:
(10 - 3 + 9) 16
This really is an excellent little game. So simple, and yet full of horrid decisions. Quick, easy to explain, and a fun 15-minute game. And I won, of course, which means it must be good.
Sue:
1st
Nick: 2nd
Suzanne: 3rd
David:
4th
This is a fun race game - For some reason, the rules are pretty straightforward, and yet it can be really difficult deciding what to do on your turn. I deliberately picked up a dent, and Suzanne ended up with three or four I think, but Sue drove her sled pretty much faultlessly round the track. this wasn't the beginner track, as we needed one that fit on the table! It was the one with two hairpins in it, and a snow drift.
Suzanne:
101
Nick: 99
David: 86
Sue:
85
Sue and I are enjoying this one more and more with each play. It was new to Suzanne, and I think that worked in her favour: The rest of us were busy taking each other out, and Suzanne was sneakily building her own little empire in the corner. I made my usual mistake of getting more points from my first declining race than my second active one, meaning that I didn't want to put my second lot into decline and lose all the points. And it nearly worked ... If I'd actually managed to find a single reinforcement on my final turn, I'd have pipped Suzanne by a point! Everyone else went through three races while I struggled along with my two ... I think I didn't do anything in the last two turns apart from roll for reinforcements, fail, and take my points!
And then we thought we'd end the way we started ....
(Paths + Stones + Bonus)
Sue:
(20 + 3 + 2) 25
David: (13 + 2
+ 8) 23
Nick: (3 + 2 + 6) 11
Suzanne:
(6 + 3 + 1) 10
Wow ... this game is really tight with four players! About half way through, Suzanne and I realised that we were going for the exact same three colours, while Sue was on her own with one colour for a while, which we should never have let happen!
And that was all we had time for, as we started a little late! A fun night .... Thanks to those who came out. Next Monday is a Bank Holiday (again!), so we'll be back in the pub in two weeks.
