A very quiet night in the pub this week, with just four of us in ....
Players:
Gordon, Haydn, Nick, Sue
Games Played:
Three of us had a quick game of this while waiting for Haydn ....
(Paths + Gems + Bonus)
Nick:
(16 + 10 + 5) 31
Sue: (18 + 3 +
1) 22
Gordon:
(6 - 4 + 13) 15
Sitting after Gordon was very useful in this one, as he kindly kept flipping over stones that were quite useful to me! more importantly perhaps, I managed to pick up a load of the gems, which deprived Sue and Gordon of them and earned me the full ten point bonus.
Gordon:
34
Haydn: 30
Nick: 28
Sue: 25
This was the main game of the evening and the first game for all of us, although Gordon had played Age of Steam in the past. We all thoroughly enjoyed it, although it was a lot tougher to do well in than Railroad Tycoon (a game which we'd all played). I thought I'd started very well by urbanizing a city and linking to it, but Gordon snuck in there as well and stole a bunch of my goods! After a few turns, I seemed to be in trouble, as I not only had the lowest income, I also had the smallest locomotive. Then, on turn 5 I think, Gordon started shipping goods along a long route that was his only, and he started sprinting away from the rest of us on the score track, so it actually quite a surprise to see the scores were as close as they were at the end of the game! We all really enjoyed this one - I can't wait to give it another try.
(Tiles + Finca + Bonus + Unused Specials)
Nick:
(33 + 10 + 7 + 2) 52
Gordon: (31 +
10 + 0 + 4) 45
Sue: (27 + 10 + 0 + 6) 43
Haydn:
(21 +0 + 0 + 4) 25
Another fun game of this SdJ-nominee. Haydn was very unlucky with the Finca tiles that came out, as he couldn't get a single one! I was the only one who managed to get all six numbers, which gained me 7 points on everyone else, and it was that that led me to end the game as soon as I had the chance, getting a tile which also gave me the final Finca bonus.
And that was it. Three games in the whole evening - That could be a new record low! See you all next week.
