Thursday 7th May 2009
Another nine of us in the shop this week.
Players:
Alex, Dave F, David H, Jahaan, Mark P, Nick, Simone, Steve, Sue
Games Played:
Timings were a bit off tonight, which meant that the two groups pretty much stayed separate to each other until the end of the evening ....
Nick:
7 (3)
Sue: 7 (1)
Mark P: 3
Steve: 2
This is one that we hadn't played for absolutely ages, and it looks as though experience shone through a little here, with Sue and I both almost completing our orders, while the other two suffered a little. I started the second round with no ingredient cards, having used the lot to complete the big pizza at the end of round 1, so had to skip a turn, but my policy of throwing all the orders in and hoping for the best seems to have paid off!
And meanwhile, everyone else arrived .....
Alex:
7
Jahaan:
5
Simone: 5
David
H: 3
Alex proved to be best at pig-drowning (or is it pig-saving?) in this one.
The downstairs group started on their "long game" ....
Railroad Tycoon: Rails of Europe
Dave
F: 65
Steve: 58
Sue:
53
Nick: 52
Mark P: 47
This was an excellent game, and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. It was quite nice to finally get a game of this in, as we've had it for ages and have been carting it too and from games nights on and off for quite some time! I raced off to a huge lead early on (thanks to a fair number of loans), so despite that my income was in line with everyone else's. However, I ground to a halt a little and ended up with the smallest engine (3), while Mark neatly upgraded his train to (6) on the final turn to claim his "Railroad baron" points. Steve and I missed out on our bonuses: Both scuppered by Sue! I needed to build the most links, but Sue kept staying one ahead of me, and Steve needed to issue the most shares, but Sue issued one less than him! Dave was King of Spain, and the 8 points he got for covering the whole of the country won him the game.
Meanwhile upstairs ....
Simone:
107
Alex:
96
Jahaan: 96
David H: 54
I have no idea how this played out, although it looks pretty much like a three-horse race!
Sue:
44
Nick:
36
Dave F: 30 (8)
Steve:
30 (5)
Another quick and fun game of this new fruity game, and Sue managed to grab the most bonus points (seventeen, I think) with me grabbing just 10 in bonuses. Steve and Dave managed to get 5 each, which looks like the actual "fruit-selling" points were pretty close again (27-26-25-25 if I'm right).
And finally ....
Jahaan:
23
Alex:
21
Sue: 19
David H: 18
Steve: 16
Nick: 11
Dave
F: 6
And this was a fun way to fill the last thirty minutes. Several good mines to start with, and we all could have collected a lot more, if we hadn't been so cautious. And then, by the time we were all getting braver, the mines got quite nasty!
And that was that for another Thursday. Thanks for coming, and see you again soon.
