Another eight gamers in the shop again this week, in what turned out to be a bit of a weird night, as half of us played one game all evening (and didn't even finish that!)
Players:
Darren, Dave F, Jahaan, Mike, Neil C, Nick, Rachel, Sue
Games Played:
Oh hang on ... I lied above. We played some quickies to start with:
Darren:
(3 + 6 + 9 + 3) 21
Nick:
(1 + 5 + 2 + 3) 11
Rachel: (-4 + 3 + 8 - 1) 6
Mike:
(1 - 3 + 4 - 1) 1
Another game full of pieces coming out in the wrong order. And bad language. But it's very, very addictive for some strange reason. An excellent win by Darren, who obviously just got very lucky with his start pieces. That's what it must have been. Rachel and I both need to remember that leaving a long, thin column empty - while a great idea in actual Tetris - is completely stupid in this game.
(Paths + Gems + Bonuses)
Neil:
(19 + 3 + 10) 32
Sue:
(17 + 6 + 4) 27
Dave:
(16 + 3 + 5) 24
So then we started our marathon game .....
Nick:
63
Dave:
59
Mike: 43
Jahaan:
29
Now, we had planned to play the "advanced" game, which goes to the end of Age II. But Age I took a long time to get through, so as we went into Age II we halved the deck of cards. And then at 11.30 we halved them again, just to try and get the game finished! So those with a longer-term strategy might have been hit by the shortening of the game. Perhaps it needs a Duckworth/Lewis method inventing for it - There's something for me to do when I get bored. Anyway .... We were all pretty close during the first age, and the scoring was pretty low, although Dave was just starting to edge ahead when Michelangelo showed up on the board - He complemented my Hanging Gardens and Theatres rather nicely, and all of a sudden I was earning 15 points per round. Of course, this didn't last long as Mike tried to destroy my theatres, so I fought him off, but then I was left vulnerable to attacks from pretty much everyone else! However, sneaky play of a 5-point card as my very final action kept me in front. We all really enjoyed the game, but it would have been nice to have the time to play the whole thing ... And one day, add the third Age!
And while we were doing that, a whole bunch of other games were being played upstairs, and I know precisely bugger all about any of them - so here are the scores:
(Nobles + Played Cards + Unplayed Cards + Edges)
Sue:
(47 + 0 + 0 + 4) 51
Rachel: (43 + 0 + 0 + 6)
49
Darren:
(37 + 2 + 0 + 8) 47
Neil: (38 + 0 + 1 + 8) 47
Tight game by the looks of it.
(Points + Animals)
Rachel:
(112 + 30) 142
Darren:
(101 + 32) 133
Sue: (103 + 21) 124
Neil:
(97 + 24) 121
Game 1
Darren:
57
Neil:
56
Rachel: 31
Sue: 0
Game 2
Rachel:
93
Sue:
43
Neil: 7
Darren: 0
So good they played it twice ....
Darren:
23
Neil:
19
Rachel: 19
Sue: 19
Mixed luke-warmish reactions to this one.
Sue:
32
Rachel:
31
Neil: 28
Darren: 19
Another game where Sue narrowly beat Rachel for the win!
And that took us to midnight and time to go home. Another recorded Sussex game on the telly, but at least this time they won it - although they kind of cheated their way there, but a win's a win.
