A nice round ten of us in the shop this week. Two fives. Even I can do that maths!
Players:
Barrie, Darren, Dave F, Mark P, Mel, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Sue
Games Played:
The first six of us thought we'd start with this quickie .... forgetting that it's not necessarily all that quick with six players!
Roj:
27
Mark:
28
Mike: 28
Mel: 30
Dave F: 33
Nick:
40
This was a lot of fun, and ended up being a very close-run thing! Roj was ahead pretty much from the start, and going into the sixth hand he had a total of 10 points and a lead of 12. However, he got caught for seventeen in that final round, but managed to cling onto his lead by a single point.
Rachel:
31
Sue:
14
Darren:
14
This looks like it was a pretty comprehensive win for Rachel, but then she always wins the first game of anything she plays! There was one roll where Rachel rolled a whole bunch of workers and stole the "first" rights of a wonder away from Darren, who was only a worker or two away from completing it himself. Darren fell into last place thanks to having fewer resources left over.
We now split into two groups .....
Barrie:
78
Dave
F: 73
Mel:
65
Rachel: 57
Sue: 51
I know absolutely nothing about this one, although it might look to everyone like I've typed the scores upside-down. Perhaps the lowest score wins? No ... It's definitely highest score wins. OK ... well, Sue was probably too busy teaching and making sure everyone knew what they were doing to concentrate on her own score, and Barrie ... well, Barrie must have been having an off-day :)
Mark:
(110 + 9 + 9) 128
Nick:
(102 + 20 + 0) 122
Darren: (98 + 18) 116
Roj: (76 + 34) 110
Mike:
(64 + 10) 74
This was a very tight and entertaining game. Mike had played a couple of times before in solo mode, and suddenly learned how tricky the game can be when you get some opponents! Roj seemed to take the early lead, doing sneaky things with the building cards, but Mark, Darren and I all soon got into the game. I sold some sandwiches and bought a couple of very nice ships, but still couldn't quite catch Mark, who ... erm ... did some other stuff. one day I'll win this game. I may have to pick my opponents carefully.
Dave
F: 63
Rachel
60
Mel: 56
Barrie: 39
Sue:
32
Hmm ... Another game that Sue had to teach, and another game in the red. I thin there may be a pattern here. This one was well received by all, and looks like it was a pretty close fight between the top three.
We dropped down to six players .....
Dave
F: 56
Roj: 50
Sue: 50
Darren: 48
Nick: 35
Rachel:
33
I'd forgotten how much fun this one was. Dave had a pretty good win in this one, which was a little unusual in that the Gondolier only appeared (in Dave's Spy's hands) right near the end of the game; in fact he turned up just in time to give Dave about 8 points from the buildings adjacent to the Canal Grande, and then the game ended the very next round!
And finally, we thought we'd have a quick try of this new one ....
Dave
F: 19
Nick: 19
Darren:
16
Roj: 16
Rachel:
11
This is a very clever little game. You're supposed to play as many games as there are players, but we thought we'd just try out the single game as it was getting late. A simple "family"-looking game, but one that has a lot more to think about than you would first imagine by listening to the rules. Enjoyed by all.
And that was all we had time for. Thanks to those who came along. See you next week.
