Monday 19th January 2009
A much cooler night in the pub this week, and yet again we were at eleven gamers, which seems to be a popular number this year.
Players:
Darren, David F-F, Haydn, Lesley, Neil C, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue, Suzanne, Tim
Games Played:
Five of us were in nice and early, so we decided on this fun little game of identity crises ...
(Potions + Vials)
Nick:
(12 + 5) 17 (7)
Sue: (15 + 2) 17 (7)
Darren:
(10 + 7) 17 (6)
Rachel: (7 + 6) 13
Rich:
(9 + 2) 11
This was a fun little opener, and very close with three of us on the same score. Sue and I also tied for the tie-breaker (cash plus ingredients), and so shared the victory.
Four more had arrived, and played this quickie while waiting ....
Lesley:
7
Tim:
5
Haydn: 4
Neil:
-4
We were now up to 11 players, and split into three groups.
The choice of four of us ..... We used a mix of the three decks (3 x E, 2 x I, 2 x K)
(Fields + Pastures + Grain +Veg + Sheep + Pigs + Cows - Unused Spaces + Stables + House + Family + cards + Bonuses)
Rich:
(4 - 1 + 4 + 1 - 1 + 1 - 1 - 3 + 0 + 10 + 12 + 2 + 4) 32
Nick:
(2 + 2 - 1 - 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 2 + 0 + 8 + 15 + 3 + 0) 29
Darren: (-1 + 4 - 1 + 1 + 3 + 4 - 4 + 0 + 4 + 6 + 9 +
0) 26
David
F-F: (-1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 - 1 - 2 + 3 + 12 + 3 +
0) 21
This was an interesting game, as we all felt we were struggling a little. I did very little farming, just getting myself enough animals to eat. Rich went crop-crazy and managed to keep his family fed on grain and veg for most of the game, while Darren struggled to extend his family or house. David got messed up a little by me taking the exact actions he needed in the final round. Which was nice.
Three were off to the .... erm .... Stone Age.
Rachel:
241
Tim:
153
Suzanne:
142
A pretty comprehensive victory for Rachel in this one. I bet she was the one that taught the game. That would explain it.
And this card game was going on all evening with the other four ....
Lesley:
41
Haydn: 36
Sue: 25
Neil:
20
Lesley and Haydn were one pairing, and Sue and Neil were the other. H & L had pretty much trounced the other two in the card game part, which meant it was down to which of Haydn and Lesley had been the sneakiest colour-wise. The answer to that was Lesley, by quite a little way!
The other seven of us re-organised slightly ....
Rachel:
54
Rich:
22
Suzanne: 16
Tim:
5
You rarely get a close game of this one, and tonight's was no exception, although Rachel was obviously not in the mood to take things easy on anyone this evening!
And three of us were off to France somewhere .... Mainly just to see if it's possible to play Agricola and Caylus in the pub in the same evening!
David
F-F: 113
Nick:
99
Darren:
81
After a few rounds, this became a bit of a tussle between David and I, mainly after I chose to screw over Darren by moving the provost a fair distance backwards. Hey, I didn't start it. I don't think. Anyway ... It boiled down to whether David and I could both afford a couple of blue buildings in the final round, which he could but I couldn't. I blame all the commission I earned for him on those posh stone supply buildings.
Rich:
38
Tim:
36
Rachel: 22
Suzanne:
16
And Rich finally managed to put an end to Rachel's winning streak in this close-run game.
And after three people had to leave us, we ended the night the way it started ....
(Potions + Vials)
Neil:
(18 + 7) 25
Sue:
(20 + 4) 24
Lesley: (13 + 7) 20
Haydn: (16 + 3) 19
Rachel:
(5 + 8) 13
Another very close result in this one, and a narrow victory for Neil, beating his partner of the previous game (obviously punishment for letting the side down).
And that was it for this week. Thanks to those who came along, and see you all again soon.
