We were ten gamers in total again this week ....
Players:
Darren, David F-F, David H, Faye, Haydn, Nick, Rachel, Simone, Sue, Suzanne
Games Played:
Six of us were in nice and early, and this game had been almost played once or twice before ....
Simone:
12 (2)
David H:
12 (1)
Rachel: 11
Darren: 10
Sue: 10
Nick: 9
I seem to be getting into the habit of losing the opener. Simone sussed out quite quickly that in a 6-player game, a bid of 7 keeps you permanently on the park, and started collecting a whole ton of action cards, which - as it turned out - was the tie-breaker too! A fun little game, although I have a feeling it would be a lot better with less than 6 players.
Rachel:
28
Haydn: 26
David H: 24
Nick: 19
Darren: 16
Simone: 14
Sue: 4
This game is always fun, but for some reason this one was even more entertaining that usual! There were a lot more scoring swings, as only Simone and I took a few gems out of the first mine, and then the second mine blew up before anyone had even entered it. After that however, people started earning handfuls of gems from the final three mines, but only after most explorers had got out. Haydn took the largest individual haul from the last mine, but it fell just short of Rachel's total.
Time to split into two groups .....
Rachel:
(9 x 3) 27
David H: (12 x
2) 24
Darren: 18
Haydn: 9
To be honest, it's an awfully long time since I played this game, and I think that I've only played it once. This means that I haven't the faintest idea what those scores mean. I know there are two ways that this game can end, and I think that this one ended differently to the one I played! Another good win for Rachel though, assuming lots of points are a good thing.
Faye:
64
Sue: 54
Nick: 48
Suzanne: 45
David F-F: 31
Another excellent game of Caylus and once more it plays completely differently. This one had a fair bit of nastiness, which seems to have been a feature of recent games, with Suzanne - the Caylus newbie - starting it all! David seems to have come off worse in the Provost department, closely followed by me, but I guess you could say that we were taking too many risks with which buildings we were trying to use. Faye was resource-collecting and built a fair bit more than the rest of us in the castle, accelerating the game at just the right moments. A very enjoyable game, but it did take us most of the night!
David H:
510
Haydn: 470
Simone: 440
Darren: 280
Rachel: 50
Wow ... that's a low score! I'm not quite sure how you only get 5, but it looks like Rachel's good run came to an end with a bit of a crash! This is a fun little game, easily explained, and yet it contains some pretty tricky decisions.
Darren:
41
David H: 33
Rachel: 32
Haydn: 22
This looks like they just played the one hand of this one, with Darren scoring a pretty decent total!
We dropped down to six of us, and had four quick rounds of ....
Nick:
9
Darren: 8
Sue: 8
Rachel: 4
David F-F: 2
Faye: 2
Well, that makes a nice change! I rarely win this one (they all pick on me unnecessarily), but in this case, triggering a couple of broken-tool fights when I was a saboteur worked a treat! I think I was on the winning side three times, picking up 5 and 1 as an honest guy, and 3 the time Sue and I managed to sabotage the mine.
And that was all we managed this week, as that made it about 11.30 and time to go home.
