An nice round ten of us in the shop this week, but no Sue, 'cos she was a bit poorly :(
Players:
Alex, Darren, Dave F, David H, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Roj, Simone
Games Played:
The first four of us thought we'd try this little card game ....
Mike:
69
Dave
F: 46
Roj: 44
Nick:
41
This was a very pleasant surprise, and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us, although it went on a little longer than advertised! mike absolutely wiped the floor with all of us, and Dave managed to mess up both Roj and I in the final round by not doing what we both expected him to do, but instead forcing the end of the game! Mike did manage one extra turn that the rest of us by starting and also ending, but that certainly didn't make the difference - he was well ahead anyway. It was the early monuments that he'd managed to build on his own that swung the game his way. My strategy of "lots of small ones" didn't really pay off :)
The next 6 in started with this one .....
Simone:
61
Rich:
60
Rachel: 54
Darren: 49
Alex:
43
David H: 43
I know nothing about this one (or several others to follow), as I didn't really shift all night ... having a lazy day, really. Still .... Looks like it was closer than most Nottingham games, with just the one point separating Simone from Rich.
There followed a certain amount of debate about which two five-player games to play, especially as my "must play" list consists pretty much exclusively of 4-player games!
(Films + Oscars + Contracts)
Dave
F: (52 + 35 + 9) 96
Rachel:
(35 + 20 + 14) 69
Nick: (31 + 15 + 7) 53
Rich: (20 + 10 + 13) 43
Roj:
(31 + 0 + 6) 37
This is always a good game, although it tends for some reason to get a lot less play than both Ra and Medici. Dave absolutely wiped the floor with us. I don't think he got involved in the auctions for a 4-star director, but picked up a lot of the other tiles, finishing four films before some of us had finished more than one! Rich and I got into a pointless battle to build the crappiest film, which was made harder for me when he completed his two-pointer!
(Fields + Pastures + Grain +Veg + Sheep + Pigs + Cows - Unused Spaces + Stables + House + Family + Cards + Bonuses)
David
H: (4 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 - 1 - 1 + 0 + 8 + 15 + 9 +
2) 43
Darren:
(1 + 4 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 1 - 0 + 2 + 5 + 15 + 1 + 0) 35
Alex: (4 + 1 + 3 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 2 - 0 + 0 + 3 + 12 + 2+
0) 34
Simone: (2 + 4 + 1 + 4 + 4 + 1 + 1 - 0 + 1 + 3 + 0 + 9 + 3 +
0) 33
Mike:
(1
+ 4 + 3 + 4 + 2 - 1 + 3 - 5 + 0 + 4 + 6 + 7 + 1) 29
Again, nothing is known at all about this one really (by me, anyway). There's very few minus points about here, which seems to point towards some pretty efficient farming generally, with the card making the difference between David and Darren's scores. In fact the game seems to have been won and lost with the houses and families, but I guess that isn't all that uncommon!
After Traumfabrik, we had time to squeeze in another one ....
Dave
F: 40
Rachel:
32
Nick: 31
Roj: 30
Rich:
17
Another win for Dave, as he showed his dice-rolling prowess and ran away with this one as well! We all lost a fight in year two, and Rachel and I barely survived another one a little later, but sadly for Rich he was alone in losing to the Barbarians in the final round, costing him a rather large 8 points!
We dropped to six, and decided on this quickie to end with ....
Nick:
520
Rachel:
340
Dave F: 280
Roj: 240
David H: 130
Darren: 120
This is a fun little game. Why can't I roll in Kingsburg as well as I do in this one? Obviously having played before was a major advantage here .....
And that was all we had time for this week. Thanks for coming along.
