A very warm night in the pub this week, and eleven of us in playing games ....
Players:
Darren, David F-F, David H, Faye, Haydn, Mark H, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Simone, Sue
Games Played:
Once again, seven of us all seemed to appear around the same time, but this time I "forgot" the bunny game, so we had to play this one instead ....
Simone:
(Vampire - Shadow) Alive
Rachel: (Unknown - Shadow) Alive
David H: (Allie - Neutral) Alive
Darren:
(Charles - Neutral) Alive
Sue: (Daniel - Neutral) Alive
Mark
H: (George - Hunter) Dead
Nick: (Franklin - Hunter) Dead
A rare win for the Shadows here. It probably didn't help that I was absolutely convinced that Mark was trying to die first, although that meant I kept healing him, which I suppose was the correct thing to do. Eventually, the two intrepid Hunters were mown down by machine gun, and the Shadows triumphed, along with Allie, who nobody really cares about anyway.
Four more were in, and played one quick round of this while waiting for us ....
David
F-F: 1
Haydn:
6
Faye: 13
Rich:
54
We were up to 11 now, and split into two groups. This was the choice of the six.
Rich:
Two steps from Carthage
David
F-F: 5 steps away
Faye: 12 steps away
Haydn: 13 steps away
Mark H: 17 steps away
Sue:
19 steps away.
The game ended with the Goths reaching Rome, which is another rare occurrence. Sue was probably still nearer Rome at the time, but Rich had practically made it, as he was just leaving Sicily when the news of the Goth's arrival reached him.
And the other five of us were rolling dice ....
Simone:
44
Rachel:
38
David H: 34
Darren: 32
Nick:
31
A good win for Simone in this one, although - as we all know buy now - she always wins her first plays of games. We must teach a new game to her and Rachel at the same time, cos it can't happen to both of them! I chose to try the second row of buildings, but that makes the armies pretty tricky, and I ended up taking soldiers far too often. The King sent at least four soldiers every year, so no one lost a fight all game. The soon-to-be-released expansion looks like it'll make things a bit more interesting in that respect!
The Gloria crowd went mining while waiting for Kingsburg to finish.
Mark
H: 48
David
F-F: 32
Haydn: 29
Rich: 20
Sue: 19
Faye:
6
This looks like a pretty comprehensive victory for Mark, probably forcing everyone else to stay in the mines too long in an effort to catch up.
We dropped down to ten players, and mixed the groups up a little for the final games of the night ....
Simone:
40
David
H: 40
Sue: 32
Faye:
15
A pretty tight game between the top two, with Simone winning it thanks to taking a turn less than David (although, she was only one card off having a whole extra point, thanks to the Gardens). Faye was the only one new to the game, which shows a little in the score, as it takes a couple of games to catch up with experienced players.
And for the other six of us, three frantic chariot races ....
Darren:
(9 + 3 + 4) 16
Nick:
(6 + 4 + 6) 16
Mark H: (4 + 1 + 9) 14
Haydn: (3 + 6 + 0) 9
Rachel: (0 + 9 + 0) 9
David
F-F: (2 + 2 + 3) 7
A very close game, with a lot of blocking and sneakiness (as always). We used the old F1 scoring of 9,6,4,3,2,1, so it was only fair to do the tie-breaker as most wins. So Darren gets the credit for winning one race, whereas I was just the model of consistency with three podium finishes. Haydn and Rachel got shut out of the Imperial Alley in the last race, and Rachel actually had the same problem in the first race as well! Meanwhile David managed to finish all three, pretty much at the back every time.
And that was all we had time for once more. Thanks all for coming along.
