Thursday 5th February 2009
Another snowy evening, but we still managed eleven brave souls ....
Players:
Alex, Barrie, Darren, Dave F, James, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Roj, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
After all the recent bunny and sushi games, I thought it was time for some retro worms for starters ....
Alex:
6
Rachel:
4
Nick: 3
Barrie:
0
Sue: 0
This was fun as always. A surprising lack of being mean to each other early on, which took a little getting used to, and then right near the end my stack of four got stolen by everyone. Except Barrie and Sue, of course.
Five others went off for a different opener .....
Dave
F: (27 + 24) 51
Darren:
(24 + 22) 46
James: (19 + 20) 39
Roj: (15 + 20) 35
Tim:
(12 + 22) 34
This went down well with those that played it. Dave managed to win both rounds, which is quite impressive.
We now split into three groups ....
Alex:
66
Barrie:
54
Rich:
48
Don't know much about this one. I'm pretty sure it was new to Alex, and I think Barrie had only played it online. Rich has no excuse however.
Four of us went off to the Monastery ....
Nick:
39
Sue:
48 (2 Event tiles)
Dave F: 48 (1 Event tile)
Rachel:
54
I think I've discovered a genre that I seem to do ok at. It's the "hidden identity" game. This was a lot of fun, actually, and we all really enjoyed it. Dave started off punishing my colour (just because he happened to have a hand full of cards in that colour), which made me think I didn't have a chance. So I thought I'd ignore my own colour and try and punish those that I thought the others were. This worked quite well, as everyone chose to ignore my guy, and he slowly started making a comeback. At the end of the game, everyone guessed who Rachel, Dave and Sue were, but only one of the three guessed mine, saving me 8 evidence points.
And the other four were off harnessing the power of steam ...
James:
728
Roj:
633
Darren: 594
Tim:
460
A good win by James in a game that was new to everyone bar Darren.
Game 1
Alex:
8
Barrie:
7
Rich:
1
Game 2
Alex:
9
Rich:
5
Barrie:
0
A couple of wins for Alex. She was having a pretty good night :)
The four Monks then tried this little filler.
Sue:
650
Dave
F: 530
Rachel: 430
Nick:
410
This is an excellent little game. Very clever, although I kept forgetting to look at what the other players had bid. Dave managed to get a complete set of Dollars, but Sue got most of two different currencies, including a few bonuses, which just gave her the edge.
We fiddled with the groups a little .....
Five of us went to a historically inaccurate Europe .....
James:
77
Nick:
76
Roj: 75
Darren: 60
Rachel:
51
This is a great game, although it took us a little longer than expected (mainly because it was like reading the rules to a class of children). A very tight game and a nervy finish had James just edge it by a point from Roj and I. Enjoyed by all of us. I'm looking forward to giving this another go.
And the other five were dividing up the loot ....
Game 1
Dave
F:
$115,000
Barrie:
$90,000
Tim: $75,000
Rich: $50,000
Alex: Dead (Undercover cop)
Game 2
Tim:
$145,000
Rich:
$115,000
Alex:
Dead (cop ... again)
Barrie: Dead
Dave F: Dead
That second game looks a little bloody! Alex managed to be the undercover cop twice, which was pretty impressive (unless she volunteered for the role, in which case it's no wonder she was killed!).
A few disappeared, and the three remaining had a couple of rounds of this fun little game, which made its second appearance of the evening ....
Dave
F: (950 + 760) 1710
Alex:
(660 + 950) 1610
Barrie:
(490 + 540) 1030
Dave's experience (well .... one round about an hour ago) shone through here, as he taught the other two how to play, and then beat them.
Barrie:
Win
Dave
F: Lose
I have no idea how this went, but Dave said that Barrie absolutely wiped the floor with him!
And that took us to almost 12.30am, which was way too late, so we all went home. Thanks all for coming out.
