How to find Shire Games

Thursday 23rd October 2008

Nick might have been away at Essen, but it didn't deter the rest of us from getting in some really good games.  For a change, I thought I'd have each group write a little summary about the game they had just played (thinking this would make it easier for me) so the comments shown below are (mostly) those of the players.

Players:

Barrie, Darren, Dave F, Dave H, James, Mike, Rachel, Rich, Roj, Simone, Sue

Games Played:

Lost Cities

Mike and Barrie arrived first so they had a go at this great two-player game.  Barry had never played before.

Mike:    98
Barr
ie
:    58

"It was fun".  (Comment from the players)

Well done lads!

6 more people showed up and since we knew we were still expecting 2 more, 4 went upstairs for a quickie and 5 of us stayed downstairs for something that was supposed to be slow and comfortable.

Monty Python Fluxx

Game #1

Darren
Rachel

Rich

Dave F.

"No one expected Darren to win."  (Comment from the players)

Game #2

Rich
Darren

Rachel

Dave F.

"Tis a very silly game."  (Comment from the players)

Caylus

While downstairs something far more sensible....

Mike:    53
James:    51
Roj:    48
Sue:    39
Barrie:
24

"Odd game, very fast, good win by Mike although very close at the end as James steamed up with the only prestige building of the game."  (Comment from the players)

Shadows Over Camelot

And now for something completely different... (Comment from the players)

Simone

Dave H

Dave F

Darren

Rich                 all won 10-2
Rachel
lost as the traitor

"We generously released the traitor from Prison."  (Comment from the players)

6 Takes!

Simone:    18
Darren:    20
Dave H:    27
Dave F:    45

Rachel:  64
Rich:
69

"Win for Simone with Rich grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory." (Comment from the players)

In the Year of the Dragon

Meanwhile the intensity continued downstairs...

Roj:    100
James:    97
Sue:    81
Mike:
74

Barrie:    72

Tight game at the end but unfortunately another not-so-good result for Barrie.  But he actually did quite well considering he ended the game with no people and no palaces!  Sue spent most of the game trailing behind but managed to pull gracefully into 3rd place with some brilliant end-game scoring.  (Comment from Sue)

Galaxy Trucker

A couple of folks had to leave so the groups re-formed slightly...

Dave F:    81
Darren:    55
Rich:    48
Dave H:
32

I couldn't read the comment from the players but seemed to say  something about a mint imperial with legs.  The players were mostly silent from what I could hear and obviously concentrating very hard so it was hard to tell whether or not it was an enjoyable experience. (Comment from Sue)

Colosseum

And last but not least...

James:    81
Rachel:    76
Roj:    64
Simone:
54

It seems that it was a little late in the evening to start this game as Simone had to leave to catch the late (late) bus a couple of turns before the end.  If that wasn't enough, it seems they forgot a very important rule which meant it would have been very difficult to get a final show done. They realised late on and instated the missing rule after round 3 so that James and Rachel managed it.  A couple of willing bystanders finished Simone's turns in her absence.  Sounds like this game needs another go at another time, perhaps a little earlier in the evening. (Comment from the players, well mostly Roj.)

And that was "Games night with Nick at Essen again" for another year.

Thanks everybody for coming and for a fun night!
