How to find Shire Games

Thursday 9th October 2008

A very busy night in the shop with 16 in this week .....

Players:

Alex, Barrie, Darren, Dave F, Dave H, Mark P, Mel, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Richard, Roj, Simone, Steve P, Sue

Games Played:

Obviously, with this many people in, there were a lot of games going on that I know nothing about apart from the scores, as I found a chair downstairs and never moved all night!

But here we go anyway .....

Lascaux

The first five in were off collecting cave drawings ....

Darren:    (11 + 0)    11
Nick:    (9 + 1)    10
Rachel:    (4 + 2)    6
Dave H:    (5 + 0)    5
Simone:    (0 + 3)    3

Darren just managed to pip me in this fun little "push-your-luck" opener, despite me desperately spending everything I could to steal the "warthog" majority from him in the final auction.

Kingsburg

The next five were straight into a longer game, and Kingsburg is always a good choice .....

Steve P:    40
Mike:    34
Rich:    34
Alex:    31
Barrie:    18

The first game that I know nothing about.  I haven't a clue what Barrie was up to in this one, although it's probably fair to assume he lost a battle or two!

Beowulf - The Legend

And five more were following the legend of Beowulf in this excellent five-player game ....

Mel:    26
Darren:    22
Dave F:    21
Mark:    15
Simone:    14

This one seemed to be enjoyed by all who were playing. A good win for Mel here.

Notre Dame

And the other five of us were off to gay Paris ....

Richard:    60
Rachel:    59
Roj:    57
Dave H:    50
Nick:    41

This was a lot of fun.  Richard and I got hit by the rats more than anyone else (mainly due to not taking the doctor in the first rat-infested round). However, Richard got himself a pretty good vp-engine going, while I struggled despite having four guys sitting in the park.  In the final three rounds, Dave and I ended up with almost nothing to do, thanks to the way the cards came out, while Rachel scored some pretty massive bonuses from the bribes, and almost managed to catch Richard at the death.

Hanging Gardens

The ten upstairs split into a four and a six, with the four going off to Babylon ....

Mark:    50
Mel:    39
Mike:    33
Rich:    30

And the six were off to Detroit for some motor racing ....

Detroit-Cleveland Grand Prix

Dave F:    $580,000
Steve:    $510,000
Simone:    $470,000
Barrie:    $370,000
Alex:    $340,000
Darren:    $200,000

I'm pretty sure that $200,000 is the amount of money you start with!

Maharaja

The downstairs group went off building palaces in India ....

Roj:    7
Richard:    6    ($12)
Nick:    6    ($5)
Rachel:    5    ($21)
Dave H:    5    ($14)

To everyone's surprise, they all enjoyed this one, despite my clunky rules explanation!  Roj seemed to grab an early lead, and then hung onto it as we all tried to earn enough cash to catch up with him. Rachel could have managed a 6th palace, but chose the "character" action as a defensive measure against losing her "builder", which didn't happen!

Alhambra

The Hanging Gardeners were off to Spain .....

Mark:    108
Mel:    97
Mike:    91
Rich:    68

... and they managed to finish in exactly the same order!

Cheeky Monkey

Sue decided to join the downstairs crowd .....

Dave H:    (14 + 23)    37
Sue:    (8 + 5)    13
Richard:    (8 + 4)    12
Roj:    (10 + 0)    10
Rachel:    (7 + 0)    7
Nick:    (5 + 0)    5

Dave very nearly managed more points in this one than the rest of us put together!

Diamant

The closer upstairs was this fun little mining game .....

Alex:    25
Dave H:    23
Dave F:    20
Simone:    12
Barrie:    11
Steve:    5

Hick Hack in Gackelwack

And the downstairs closer was the silly chickens and foxes game that for some reason I still don't fully understand (but then again neither does Sue, so I'm not alone) ...

Roj:    45
Richard:    40
Nick:    39
Sue:    32
Rachel:    19
Darren:    18

Another good win for Roj in this fun little game.

And that was all we had time for this week.  Thanks to everyone for coming along!

Sue and I are not able to make next Monday's games night in the pub, so we'll see you next Thursday (but feel free to go along on Monday!)
