Last night before our mini-break, and a quieter night ... although with more newbies (woohoo!) ....
Players:
Barrie,
Darren, Dave H, Nick, Rachel, Simone, Sue
Games Played:
Once again this fun dice game was the opener of choice ....
Barrie:
(11 - 3) 8
Sue:
(7 - 5) 2
Rachel: (4 - 3) 1
Nick: (5 - 5) 0
Darren: (4 - 7) -3
Another
fun game where I was completely unfairly targetted. But still fun. A good rare
win for Barrie.
We were still five players, and decided on another quickie to see if anyone else was coming along ....
Rachel:
30
Sue:
27
Barrie: 15
Darren: 15
Nick:
8
This
was a lot of fun, as always. The girls got ahead early, which meant that the
guys had to try and stay in the mines longer to catch the cowardly
girls up. Sadly, come the final mine, Darren and Barrie chickened out just to
not come last, which left me by myself. I did ok for a little while (reaching
about 23 gems), but then got enveloped in a cloud of poison gas.
And then, two complete strangers walked through the door. But they passed the initial inspection, so Simone and Dave were welcomed into our little family. They've just moved to Stoke (poor sods).
Luckily, we'd just got this new release, which plays up to 8 players .....
Barrie:
(Vampire -- Shadow)
Sue: (Unknown --
Shadow) Both won because the Hunters
were dead
Simone: (Allie -- Neutral) Won by staying
alive
Darren:
(Daniel -- Neutral) Still alive
Dave:
(George -- Hunter) Died 3rd
Rachel: (Charles -- Neutral) Died 2nd
Nick: (Emi) First to die.
This is an excellent game ... and we all had a lot of fun with it. Even me, and I died pretty quickly! We were all completely new to the game, and - as such - I managed to kill myself by drawing a black card when I only had two lives left. Now that I know there are cards that can damage yourself, I don't think I'll be doing that again! Plus ... I forgot about my special ability of moving where I wanted, which would have given me the chance to heal a little bit. Once I was gone, Darren was revealed and changed his goals, but the Shadows knew that they only needed to find the other hunter to claim the victory. Rachel was next to go ... She had the tricky victory condition of having to make the third kill (I think), but sadly didn't hang around long enough. Pretty soon after that, everyone was revealed (apart from Sue, who we all knew was the Unknown) and Barrie was busy healing himself after every attack, and sadly Dave couldn't hang on to his precious few life points any longer.
I just noticed .... once again, Sue was the "liar" of the group!
Pillars of the Earth & Pillars of the Earth Expansion
Sue sloped off to do a little work, so the six of us were off to Kingsbridge .....
Rachel:
54
Dave:
53
Simone: 52
Nick: 46 (5 gold)
Darren: 46 (0 gold)
Barrie: 28
Another very close game of this one, with the expansion making for a much tighter, fairer and (slightly) longer affair! It was Dave & Simone's first game with the expansion, and Barrie's first game of any kind, so Darren and I went easy on them (obviously). In fact, it boiled down to a pretty close three-way battle between the people that hogged the start player option between them (not that Barrie and I were bitter), and at the end Rachel just edged it by a single point from Dave and another from Simone.
A few had to leave, so the remaining four of us chose this one to end with .....
Sue:
38
Nick:
26
Darren: 18
Rachel:
13
This was a very weird game of Ra, thanks to the way the tiles came out. Something that we'd never seen before: At the end of the first round, everyone had 10 points - Exactly the same amount as we all started the game with! After that, Sue and I started to edge away. I was given free rein at the end of the second round, filling the auction track twice and rejecting the tiles before eventually settling on a set which gave me all 5 Civilisations (despite the Civil unrest). Sue was already ahead, and her hand of 11, 12, and 13 suns at the end was just rubbing it in!
And that took us to almost midnight.
Next week we're away from the shop, so there are no Shire Gamers meetings, but we'll be back on the Thursday after the Bank Holiday (28th August)
