Just the six of us in the pub this week .....
Players:
David
F-F, Haydn, Neil H, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first four of us decided to give this one a quick go while we were waiting ....
(Tokens + Areas)
Nick:
(63 + 12) 75
Sue: (58 + 15) 73
Neil: (41 + 9) 50
Rich: (38 + 1) 39
I was a little lucky here to spot that there were two colours I could dominate fairly early on, while the others were fighting over the other three colours. In fact, as it turned out, both Sue and I grabbed two colours each and Neil took the other one, but I managed to stay ahead of Sue thanks to an extra oasis or two ...
We were up to 6 players, but thought we'd play another quickie to see if anyone else was coming along ...
Nick:
32
David:
30
Rich: 23
Haydn: 22
Sue: 21
Neil:
9
Woohoo! I don't often win this one and , to be honest, it didn't look like tonight was going to be any different. However, I ended up in the fourth mine all by myself, and grabbed 17 gems off one card before disappearing with all but five of my final total! Neil was fighting me for last place at that point, but he chose to leave me to it just as it got interesting. David played sensibly and thoroughly deserved to win if it hadn't been for my luck being in.
We decided no one else was coming and split into two groups of three for a little while.
Rich:
5 Conditions
David:
4 Conditions
Haydn: 2 Conditions
I don't know anything about this one I'm afraid. Looks like experience told slightly, as I believe it was Haydn's first game.
And the other three of us were once more back in the Stone Age ....
(Points + Resources + Symbols + Tools + Builders + Shamen + Farmers)
Neil:
(119 + 6 + 4 + 70 + 12 + 12 + 0) 223
Nick: (96 + 0 + 49 + 0 + 18 + 27 + 30)
220
Sue: (111 + 6 + 36 + 3 + 32 +
0 + 8) 196
This
was Neil's first game, but he caught on pretty quick for a change.
It was a pretty close contest from beginning to end, with all of us advancing at
a fairly even pace. Sue didn't expand her family at all, but was still farming
pretty regularly, which eventually meant she was making a food profit every
round! Neil was going for tools and toolmakers, while I was going for anything I
could! Near the end of the game, I picked up one of those
"distribution" cards to try and get a gold to help me build a hut. I
rolled my gold, but sadly I also rolled a tool which Neil was happy to take,
giving him 7 more points for the end of the game!
Tribune finished a little ahead of Stone Age, so the three of them had a quick game of this one ....
Haydn:
28
David:
21
Rich:
21
Another one I know nothing about. Haydn managed to get his revenge for Tribune here by the look of it.
We decided to get back together for the rest of the night ....
(Buildings + Bonuses)
David:
(27 + 3) 30
Neil:
(25 + 3) 28
Sue: (23 + 4) 27
Nick: (23 + 0) 23
Haydn: (22 + 0) 22
Rich:
(17 + 0) 17
This was a lot of fun, as always. I seemed to get assassinated and stolen from a fair bit, although I think everyone feels that way. Sue chose to end it by building her 8th building, but sadly it wasn't enough to catch the guys that had all five different buildings in their districts. Another game tonight where there was very little in it.
We dropped down to five players, and decided to end with this quickie ....
Sue:
$538,000
Haydn:
$477,000
Nick: $444,000
David: $428,000
Rich:
$197,000
This was an unusual game of this one, as one of the artists never once featured in the game and it ended with everyone (apart from me) having a few yellow paintings in their hands. The middle three artists ranked in the same order in both the first two rounds, meaning that they were then the ones to concentrate on in the final two rounds, as they were likely to be worth so much more than the others. Myself and Rich both set our prices too high in a fixed auction or two, effectively ending any challenge we may have put up. Sue didn't but that many paintings, but she did sell pretty shrewdly, and eventually won by a bit of a margin.
And that was all we had time for, as we'd outstayed our welcome a little this week! Thanks to those who came along.
