A quiet night in the pub this week, with just the five of us .....
Players:
Gordon,
Neil C, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
Three of us were in early, so we decided to play a round or two of this one while waiting .....
Nick:
38
Neil:
33
Sue: 33
As it turned out, we only had time for one round, and - if it wasn't for Sue rolling a 10 on the very last roll of the game, I'd have had a score of 22! but luckily, my doubled straight on the final roll won me the round.
Gordon and Rich arrived, Sue went home, and so the four of us were off to Egypt ....
Neil:
114
Nick:
109
Gordon: 104
Rich:
76
This was a really interesting game, and pretty close as well! The odd thing is that as the game came to the end, Neil was choosing a card from the final market - He had two choices: One was a card I was collecting, and the other was a card that Gordon was collecting, so whichever card he took he knocked one of us down a few points. We all thought that Neil had been put in the position of king-making either Gordon or myself, and he eventually went with the one that got himself an extra point, hurting me at the same time. And then, once we'd added up all the scores, it turned out that Neil had sneaked the win away from the pair of us, although had he picked the other card, I'd have come out on top. Overall, a fun game with a very tight finish.
Rich chose this one, which had been coming to the pub for a while now ....
Rich:
1 Hacienda, 3 Farms (all Irrigated)
Gordon:
1 Hacienda, 2 Farms
Neil: 0 Hacienda, 3 Farms
Nick: 1 Hacienda, 1 Farm
This was the first playing of this one for all of us, and - although it looks like it could be a pretty evil game - no one really felt picked on, as it was pretty much the only thing you could do on your turns! Rich jumped ahead in the first couple of turns and never really looked back, although I kind of helped him out at the end of the game, by diverting the Rio Verde in a rather odd direction, giving him the option of diverting it back to his Hacienda and irrigating all of his properties. We had a rule wrong for part of the game, but I don't think it affected the outcome any; if anything, Rich may have been even further ahead, as we were all using one of his farms to get our own corn!
And finally, Neil and I chose this one to finish with ....
(Points + Resources + Symbols + Tools + Builders + Shamen + Farmers)
Neil:
(105 + 3 + 16 + 0 + 14 + 0 + 0) 138
Gordon: (80 + 3 + 1 + 0 + 30 + 14 +
0) 128
Nick: (77 + 2 + 4 + 18 + 0 + 0 + 24) 125
Rich: (27 + 3 + 25 + 0 + 0 +
40 + 3) 98
I'm not sure I'll ever tire of this game ... It's always such a fun time! Rich suffered a little here in expanding his family a bit too quickly, coupled with his little dudes not being able to hunt any food, even it was tied down and had a big "food" sign attached to it. All of us were picking up cards, but then not being able to capitalize on them - Rich had a load of tools, but I had all the tool-makers. Gordon had all the best Shamen cards, but Rich had the 10 people. Neil went building mad towards the end, grabbing the last building in a stack when the rest of us would have been happy for another round, and it turned out that the final building he grabbed was enough to give him the win!
And that was it for another week. Thanks to those who came along, and see you all next week.
