Back from a two week break, but just the six of us in the pub this week ....
Players:
Haydn,
Mark P, Mel, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
Five of us arrived at pretty much the same time, so we went for a quickie to see if anyone else came along ....
Rich:
53
Nick:
47
Mark: 45
Mel: 40
Sue: 32
This was actually a slightly more "friendly" game of this one than recently. We were busy blocking each other in the first half, but then it opened up a little in the second half and we all managed to get a half-decent group going. Apart from Sue.
Haydn arrived, and we decided that that was probably all we were getting, and so launched into this fun game ...
Mark:
(Daniel) Won by dying first
Sue: Bob
Mel: Franklin (Hunter)
Rich: Emi (Hunter)
Nick: Vampire (Shadow)
Haydn: Werewolf (Shadow)
This was a pretty impressive win by Mark, as it's the first time I've seen Daniel actually succeed in annoying enough people and getting killed before anyone else. Haydn had declared his ability of attacking back (which then triggered Mel to declare hers and make a one-off - rather ineffective - attempt at killing him!), and when Mark attacked him for the fun of it, Haydn attacked straight back and killed him! This is a fun game .... I think everyone enjoyed it.
After much deliberating, we decided to stay in one group and play this excellent game ....
Nick:
14/14 Cities (€69)
Sue:
14/14 Cities (€55)
Mark: 14/14 Cities (€43)
Mel: 14/14 Cities (€2)
Haydn: 12/12 Cities
Rich: 11/13 Cities
This was a pretty close game. We played on the American map, and Mark was the only player to venture west .... and he didn't go that far! But what this meant was that the other five of us got completely blocked up at around 5 cities each, and none of us were willing to trigger step 2 by paying 50+ to go out west. However, Mark kindly triggered step 2 himself, and then we were all soon blocking the east up again until step 3 kicked in! Rich went for an all-garbage strategy, which ended up proving very expensive, despite him being the only one buying the stuff! And Haydn was our nuclear boy, as the red plants were actually pretty few and far between. In the end, four of us were threatening to grab the win as we all expanded to fourteen cities in the same turn, but luckily I had a tiny bit more cash left over than the others!
And we just had time for a couple of quick games to end the night with .....
This fun little auction game was the first one....
(Property + Cash)
Sue:
(48 + 2) 50
Rich: (39 + 10) 49
Haydn: (42 + 2) 44
Mel: (43 + 1) 44
Nick: (34 + 7) 41
Mark:
(34 + 3) 37
This is always a fun game, and tonight was no exception. I picked up well for my first three house cards, but got completely shafted with the last two, especially in the final round where both blank cheques appeared!
And finally, Rich had brought along this little game, which no one had played before ...
(Animals + Bonuses)
Sue:
(15 + 9 + 10) 34
Mark:
(10 + 8) 18
Rich: (9 + 5) 14
Haydn: (9 + 0) 9
Nick: (8 + 0) 8
Mel:
(1 + 0) 1
This is another great little filler from Reiner Knizia. The production quality is excellent ... really nice velvet bag and great poker chip animals! Sue was the best at drawing items randomly from a bag, and so comfortably beat the lot of us!
And that was all we had time for this week .... Thanks to all those who came along, and we'll see you all next time.
