Back in the pub this week, with seven of us there ....
Players:
David F-F, Gordon, Haydn, Lesley, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first three in decided there was time for a quick opener ....
Nick:
21 ($60m)
Rich: 10 ($45m)
Sue: 80 ($42m)
This was the closest game we've had of this one, as no one was exactly sure whether they had enough cash to survive the "poorest loses" rule at the end. Sue had easily enough points, but luckily spent $3m more than Rich to give me the win!
We were now up to seven, and split into two groups. This was the first game played by the group of three ...
Rich:
72
David: 58
Lesley:
51
Sadly I know nothing about this one. That's a pretty large margin of victory for Rich though!
This was the pre-planned game of the evening, with the four of us already subscribed .....
Gordon:
(52 + 19) 71
Haydn:
(40 + 27) 67
Nick: (48 + 12) 60
Sue: (32 + 24) 56
We all really enjoyed this one .... It's not a game that's full of "fun" as such, as it's a bit of an economical brain-burner as you're constantly checking you've got the right commodities for the next bit coming up, seeing whether you can afford to do what you want to do (I took out rather too many loans!), and then hoping that the space on the board that you want is still there when it gets to your turn! Gordon started to hurry the end of the game when he saw that Haydn had completed a nice little "banking bloc" earning him $90 per round, and the game ended the turn after I also got my bank up and running. I had to repay $100 in loans, which is 10 points' worth! Gordon had the most tiles on the board, which was enough to give him the win despite Haydn having $80 more than him.
This was next up for the group of three .....
Rich:
34
David:
33
Lesley: 32
Wow ..... That's a pretty close game there. Rich wins his second in a row, although by the narrowest of margins.
And the last game for the group of three was thin fun little puzzler .....
Rich:
57
Lesley:
50
David:
35
Again, I still wasn't really paying attention to these games as I was busy losing the plot on the other table. Another good win for Rich here, with David trailing a little behind in this one.
Hm. Having avoided this one for so long this year, we've now played it on two consecutive pub nights!
Haydn:
Winner!
Rich:
Last to drop
Lesley: 3rd
David: 4th
Sue: 5th
Nick:
1st to fall
This ended in a dance-off between Haydn and Rich, but they both had 3 lives left at the start of it! I did my usual trick of consistently putting my two dances in the wrong order.
And finally, our traditional end-of-nighter ....
David:
7
Haydn: 7
Rich:
5
Sue: 5
Lesley: 4
Nick:
3
We played four rounds, and the Saboteurs only had one successful round. I actually managed to connect to the gold once, but that's when all the gold cards were singles! A good shared victory for Haydn and David, successfully completing the final round despite almost everyone having broken tools at one point!
And that was all we had time for. Thanks to those who came along.
