Nine of us in the shop again this week ....
Players:
Barrie, Darren, Dave F, Gordon, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first four of us were off to Babylon again .....
Sue:
52
Nick: 42
Rachel: 30
Gordon:
21
This is always a fun starter, although Gordon had trouble finding the right tiles for his little bit of paradise. Interestingly, Sue was the only one who didn't get four turns as start player, yet it didn't stop collecting a couple of nice complete sets of tiles.
This game had been pre-organised, and everyone was finally ready to go by about 7.30pm ....
Darren:
Dave:
Mike:
Rich:
Heroes All won
Barrie:
Overlord Lost
I don't know much about this one, I'm afraid. The game took most of the evening, Barrie had been reading up during the week on how to be the perfect overlord, but sadly the reports were that the game seemed to be heavily in favour of the Heroes .... but I have a feeling they were playing a fairly friendly scenario, and the same fate may not await them next time!
This was Gordon's choice for the downstairs crew .....
Rachel:
45
Sue:
42
Nick: 39
Gordon:
37
This was a pretty tight game all the way through. None of us went for the bottom row, preferring to get extra flexibility in dice rolls and free stuff! I was at the back for a lot of the game, but then sprang into the lead by completing the top row (thanks to the envoy) for 12 points in one turn. Sue managed to roll pretty high numbers throughout the game, whereas I (despite my extra die) often seemed to find myself going first. And then sadly, I left myself wanting the King to send a pretty large army in the final battle, and (thanks to Rachel, he failed to deliver. If I had managed to win the final battle instead of losing it, we worked out that Rachel and I would have tied for the win!
Gordon's choice again, and this time we were off to Ancient Rome ....
(Pecunia non Olet scenario)
Sue:
4 goals (34 points)
Gordon:
4 goals (32 points)
Rachel: 4 goals (29 points)
Nick:
2 goals
Another excellent game of this one. A tight game (if you don't count me plodding along at the back) this was, with Rachel being the first one to declare the victory in the fifth round when she grabbed the obligatory 30 denarii. By the end of the round, Sue and Gordon (who both had a Tribune marker) joined her on 4 goals, and when all the points were added up, it was Sue's Legions and extra cash that got her the extra couple of points for the win. I was well and truly in last place, being one item away from the third of the goals I was aiming for, but I was miles away from the obligatory cash goal.
And finally for the four of us ....
Gordon:
15
Nick: 15
Rachel: 15
Sue:
8
For a simple game, there was a lot to take in at this time of night for our first playing! We worked our way through the game, offering help and suggestions where necessary (and constantly reminding ourselves that the tile and the number on the cards were unrelated! When we added up the scores at the end, three of us managed to get the same points, and there is no tie-breaker in the rules, so it was a shared victory for everyone (apart from Sue)
And that was it for another week. Thanks for coming, and we'll see you all next week.
