A dozen of us in the pub this week .....
Players:
Alex, Darren, David F-F, Faye, Gordon, Haydn, Lesley, Neil C, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first five of us were in need of a quick opener while we waited for the others ....
Darren:
17
Rich: 16
Rachel: 15
Nick:
12
Sue: 12
This was pretty much exactly what we were looking for: A quick, fun opener. Rich looked to have the game under control, and was busy deflecting the focus of attention to everyone else, but then right at the end, Darren grabbed the win!
We were quickly up to 12 players, and split into a 3, 4, and 5. This was the choice of the four ....
(Points + Resources + Symbols + Tools + Huts + Shamen + Farmers)
Gordon:
(102
+ 0 + 1 + 0 + 21 + 0 + 20) 144
Darren: (57 + 5 + 25 + 0 + 0 + 54 +
0) 141
Rachel: (65 + 1 + 16 + 24 + 0 + 0 + 0) 106
Nick: (95 + 0 + 1 + 0 + 0 + 0 +
0) 96
Dice never liked me much in the first place, but they really seem to dislike me in this game! Yet again, the first couple of rounds were spent struggling to get any resources, and whenever I went for food, I barely found what I needed. Gordon seemed to have the game under control from the outset, although Darren was busy collecting cards as he fell behind on the score track, and it almost paid off as he scored 84 from them, compared to Gordon's 42. But Gordon's lead of 45 from his buildings kept him in front by 3 whole points! One stack of buildings ran out very quickly, making for a shorter game than usual .... I only managed to collect one card in the whole thing!
Lesley was very interested in Rich's new copy of this one, and so - with Haydn - they vanished off into a corner to play with the zombies ...
Haydn:
Lesley: (Heroes) Won by killing 15 Zombies
Rich:
(Zombies) Lost.
When I nipped over to have a look how this one was going, Rich was gloating about how the two heroes were having great trouble killing his zombies, having only managed a total of one kill so far. And then all of a sudden, when it was over it turns out the heroes had improved their accuracy dramatically and eliminated all 15 of their targets, while the Zombies had only managed to kill one of the two heroes.
And the group of five were off to Italy to build some cities ....
(People + Bonus - Famine)
Alex:
(28 + 3 - 0) 31
Neil: (24 + 3 - 0) 27
Faye: (20 + 6 - 0) 26
David: (24 + 6 - 5) 25
Sue: (23 + 6 -
5) 24
This looks like it was a pretty close one .... In fact, if Sue and David hadn't let their nice little people die in the final round, there would have been only five points separating first place from last! This is a great game, and one which we should play a lot more often, although it does take a little time!
With the Stone Age game finished, there was time for a quick trip to ... erm ... Metropolys, I guess ...
(Highest + Trendy + Metro - Archaeological + Areas + Bonus)
Gordon:
(10 + 6 + 2 - 0 + 8 + 14) 40
Rachel: (10 + 0 + 6 - 0 + 12 +
10) 38
Darren: (5 + 6 + 2 - 3 + 10 + 12) 32
Nick: (0 + 3 + 1 - 6 + 14 +
12) 24
I seem to be having a bad night, while Gordon was having a really good one! This is a really tricky game, and one that none of us really felt we had mastered, but my getting into a battle with Darren for tallest building in the middle region probably cost us both the chance to score more than one highest-tower bonus, while Gordon and Rachel happily mopped up two each for the other regions. Gordon had the tough "statue" bonus card, and the two successful moves he made there were worth more than mine and Darren's three each!
The LNoE players decided to go off to Scandinavia for a quickie (if you see what I mean) ....
Rich:
69
Haydn:
55
Lesley: 47
Don't know anything at all about this one I'm afraid. It was pretty quick ....and Rich won it.
And our group of four had time for this quick card game while we were waiting for the others to catch up ...
Rachel:
(3 + 4) 7
Nick:
(3 + 2) 5
Gordon: 4
Darren: 0
A good win for Rachel here, as both her and I grabbed a couple of categories each, but Rachel's use of her many Bishop cards meant that her categories were worth more than mine at the death!
And finally .... there were 10 of us ready to go mining ....
David:
10
Rachel:
6
Sue: 6
Darren: 4
Haydn: 4
Nick: 4
Faye: 2
Neil: 2
Rich: 2
Lesley: 0
This was a load of fun as always. David actually scored those 10 gold in the first two rounds, having connected to the gold both times. In the final round, the Saboteurs came out on top; sadly, this was the only time that Lesley was a good guy!
And that took us to closing time. Thanks all for coming, and we'll see you next week.
