Nine of us in the shop this week ....
Players:
Barrie, Darren, Dave F, Jonathan, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first five in were off to the feast ....
Darren:
(Cassius)
Rachel: (Octavius)
Both won, thanks to 3 Daggers.
Barrie:
(Messalina, then Caesonia)
Dave:
(Vespasianus)
Mike:
(Caligula) All
lost
This was a quicker than normal game of this one, as the two conspirators got the better of Caligula, killing him thanks to three daggers being in play. Sadly, it didn't happen quick enough for Barrie, who still had enough time to die once. Rachel did pretty well there, as she got hit by a big bottle of poison in the second round.
Ticket to Ride - The Card Game
The next three ready to go decided to travel round America .....
(Tickets - Incompletes + Bonuses)
Nick:
(95 - 0 + 26) 121
Jonathan:
(77 - 9 + 35) 103
Rich: (84 - 20 +
20) 84
Well, would you believe it. I thought that I would never, ever win a game of this one, but I actually managed to complete all of my tickets AND have some trains left over! A miracle.
Time for the two "main" games of the evening. This one took 5 players upstairs .....
Mike:
15
Darren:
14
Jonathan: 13
Rich: 10
Barrie: 9
I don't know a lot about this one. Mike seemed to get a good network up and running pretty early, and then managed to stay in front 'til the very end.
And the other four of us were off building a Monastery for our Monks to live in ...
(Letters - Tile + Blessings)
Dave:
(24 - 1 + 12) 35
Nick:
(24 - 3 + 3) 24
Rachel: (24 - 3 + 2) 23
Sue:
(18 - 1 + 3) 20
This is a very interesting game, with quite a lot going on for a first play. Dave had some pretty nice tiles, which he managed to lay out in a row, which meant his 5-monk building team could happily walk from one to the other picking up points. Sue and I got into a letter-war early on, which is a mistake as it just harms us and no one else! Dave was the first to finish his phrase, and so ended up collecting the lion's share of the blessings, while I benefitted from not having any blessing near the end of the game when people were returning theirs, so I could collect my Alms.
We were down to six players, and decided on a quick race around the island ....
(Score + Gold +/- Treasure)
Barrie:
(-5 + 29 + 10) 34
Darren: (15 + 1 + 7) 23
Sue: (-5 + 19 - 2) 12
Rich: (-5 + 9 + 0) 4
Rachel: (2 + 2 - 3) 1
Nick: (-5 + 4 + 0) -1
I think I have the honour of posting the first ever negative score in this one! Darren actually won the race by sprinting ahead .... It was all Rachel could do to make sure the rest of us didn't ALL score minus points for being so far behind! However, Barrie (who was in last position) had been plundering a load of pirate hideouts and winning some fights, grabbing all of the gold he could find. In fact, on the last turn of the game, I had a fight with Barrie which I should have won, but in fact I lost and it meant his gold stack went up by 6 instead of mine. Had I won the fight like I was supposed to, I'd have been just behind Sue and Darren would have won the game! A load of fun, as always, and some pretty big dice for a change!
We dropped down to four for the final game of the night.....
Sue:
(27 + 20 + 16 + 34) 97
Darren: (27 + 24 + 22 + 22) 95
Nick: (26 + 26 + 3 + 30) 85
Rachel: (23 + 32 + 3 + 10) 68
This was a fun game, and one we hadn't played for a while. Rachel and I started pretty well, but got completely done over in the third round, which cost us our chances. Sue had a very strong final round, which gave her the game by a couple of points from Darren.
And that was all we had time for.
There will be no Shire Gamers on Monday, as there seems to be too many of us that can't make it.
