How to find Shire Games

Monday 19th May 2008

Back in the pub this week, and just the four of us in for a nice quiet games night  ....

Players:

David F-F, Nick, Rich, Sue

Games Played:

Ticket to Ride: The Card Game

The first three in had about 20 minutes to kill ...

(Routes - Incompletes + Bonuses)

Rich:    (101 - 0 + 12 + 15)    128
Sue:    (98 - 14 + 12 + 8 + 15)    119
Nick:    (80 - 16 + 10 + 8)    82

I think I am destined to forever come last at this one, as I just give up trying to keep track of what I've done by about halfway through, and gamble on a few more tickets. There was a fair amount of train robbing going on in this game (as seems to be the pattern with our games), with Rich successfully making me throw away a set of three cards, including a joker! Rich managed to have a couple of trains left over at the end of his tickets, whereas Sue and I - as usual - managed to have a couple of tickets left over at the end of our trains!

Jamaica

We were up to four now, and this was my choice:

(Score + Coins + Treasure)

Rich:    (15 + 17 + 13)    45
Nick:    (15 + 11 + 0)    26
Sue:    (15 + 11 + 0)    26
David:    (5 + 0 + 10)    15

This was a fun game, as per usual. David got himself in an awful lot of fights, and managed to pretty much lose them all. Rich was on the hunt for treasure, and looted a fair amount of the hideaways, as shown by his treasure total. The race part was actually pretty close, with three of us finishing at the same time, with absolutely nothing to separate Sue and I in second place.

Stone Age

Next, we were back in the Stone Age ....

(Points + Resources + Symbols + Tools + Huts + Shamen + Farmers)

David:    (119 + 5 + 0 + 32 + 48 + 0 + 6)    210
Rich:    (95 + 2 + 16 + 6 + 0 + 18 + 36)    173
Nick:    (88 + 0 + 4 + 0 + 5 + 50 + 5 + 0)    152
Sue:    (69 + 4 + 49 + 10 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 4)    136

Another really good game, with David looking like he had this one pretty much under control by the second half of the game. I took too many risks, and wasted a couple of guys on occasion, added to a daft placement when i put my little guy on the wrong spot! Sue had some pretty terrible dice rolls, which cost her a little. Rich and I were busy expanding our families, but Rich was also busy farming, which I couldn't get into, meaning that most of my kids were busy hunting in order to feed themselves! David was investing heavily in buildings and tools, which none of the rest of us were, and a couple of timely cards gave him two major scores at the end of the game, while the rest of us only really scored heavily in one department.

Pillars of the Earth

And finally - just before the release of the expansion - Sue chose this excellent game to end the evening ...

Nick:    45    (2 gold)
David:    45    (0 gold)
Rich:    38    (1 gold)
Sue:    37    (10 gold)

This was an incredibly close game, as usual, with the final result coming down to the tiebreaker. David was making loads of points using sand and (later on) metal, whereas I was buying most of my points in the second half of the game, selling everything I could at the market to get the cash. The master builders cam out of the bag in some very bizarre sequences, which was interesting!

And that was it for another week. No pub night again next week, thanks to the second May Bank Holiday!
