Just the five of us in the pub this week .....
Players:
David F-F, Neil C, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
For the second week running, this was the opening choice for the first four in .....
Nick:
37
David:
34
Sue: 33
Rich: 22
Another pretty tight game, which I was quite surprised to come out on top. I managed to collect the set of three flowers, and the gardener that went with them, which helped a lot. David and Sue were right behind me, but I just managed to hold on. There seemed to be a lot more "having a look what other people want before taking our own cards" than usual, but - having said that - the scores were pretty similar to last week.
We had about 30 minutes before Neil was expected, so we went off city-building ....
(Tallest + Trendy + Metro - Archaeological + Colour + Bonus)
Nick:
(10 + 6 + 3 - 3 + 12 + 10) 38
Sue:
(10 + 0 + 6 - 1 + 10 + 12) 37
David: (5 + 9 + 2 - 1 + 10 + 7) 32
Rich:
(5 + 9 + 0 - 3 + 12 + 8) 31
Another very tight game, with just 7 points separating the lot of us. I managed to score twice for tallest buildings, which I thought would give me an advantage, until it turned out that Sue and Rich had tied an area, giving Sue 10 points as well. I managed to surround a couple of lakes while Sue took the most bonus points with 3 chains. Rich crossed a couple of bridges, but David could only manage to surround one statue for seven points: Another one would have given him the game!
We set this one up for five, then sat around for a few minutes waiting for Neil to show up!
("Alea Iacta Est" scenario)
Rich:
4 goals (Cash, Laurels, Legions, Factions)
Sue:
3
David: 2
Neil: 2
Nick: 1
This game once more lasted exactly 5 turns, although this time it very nearly ended after four, as Rich was just a whisker away from the cash by that stage. A pretty impressive performance by Rich .... I think the rest of us should never have let him have control of 4 of the 7 factions at the end of the second turn!
We didn't have a lot of time remaining, and so opted for a couple of quick games to end the night ....
David:
45
Neil:
44
Sue: 42
Nick: 33
Rich: 25
This
was an incredibly close game (well ... between the top three, anyway). All of
the fishy lakes were kept apart, and most of them were at the edge of the map,
which was quite unusual. There was an awful lot of passing and then relying on
someone else to "take one for the team" going on in this game, and
Rich and I were just two nice to the team, sacrificing our own positions on
occasion to help out. Meanwhile, the other three selfish players steamed ahead!
In the end, just three points separated the three of them, with David fluking
edging it by a single point.
And finally ... our second visit to the Latrines in the same evening ...
Nick:
20
David:
17
Rich: 15
Sue: 14
Neil: 13
This
was a load of fun as always, with the action cards flying around the table,
making sure they did as much damage as possible. I had the "Villa
Dixius" set up, hosting an extra Roman, as well as a couple of ladies
stacked up in another cubicle, so I just had to sit there and hope they would
all eventually pay off, which they did! By the time everyone (including me)
realised that I was going to make it on the next turd turn, it
was too late for either Neil or Sue to do anything about it.
And that took us to about 11.30, which was all we had time for for another week.
Sue and I will not be able to make Monday 23rd .... Check the guild on boardgamegeek.com to see if there are enough people coming along.
