How to find Shire Games

Thursday 31st January 2008

Just the nine of us in the shop this week, although Sue and I were popping in and out for the first hour or so ....

Players:

Darren, Dave C, Gordon, Jonathan, Mike, Nick, Rachel, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Animalia

The first six in grabbed this fun little card game ....

Jonathan:    25
Rachel:    25
Mike:    18
Darren:    18
Gordon:    17
Dave:    14

I know absolutely nothing about this one, as I wasn't actually here when it was being played (at last! A decent excuse for knowing nothing about a game), although I did arrive back for the closing moments, and it was the quietest game of Animalia I've ever witnessed!

Railroad Tycoon

We decided on a couple of longer games, now that we were all ready ... and this one went upstairs with five players.

Gordon:    81
Mike:    70
Jonathan:    62
Darren:    61
Tim:    59

Again, very little is known about this one. Mike was the only one who hadn't played the game before, and - although no one really came close to Gordon - he did a pretty good job. Darren managed to complete the game without any shares, which always impresses me as I tend to go miles into debt when I play the game! And Tim was sitting in third place until the final scoring, when we walked himself backwards into last! That's all I know.

Primordial Soup

And the remaining four of us decided to give this one a try, seeing as a demo copy had arrived the other day!

Sue:    45
Dave:    35
Rachel:    29
Nick:    28

This was actually a load of fun, and all of us really enjoyed the game, as it was new to the four of us. I made an early mistake (we think) by saving up for 2 divisions in the first round, which - after a few rounds - had me well in front; but going last in the feeding stage was getting tricky, and my Amoebae started to die off pretty quickly. Sue, in the meantime, managed to build up a really nice set of genes, and started to sprint through the pack at about the halfway point of the game.  Rachel spent the whole game plodding along in last place, only to jump past me on the final scoring of the game!

Die Säulen von Venedig

Those two games took a while, and so after them, we were down to just five of us, with about an hour to spare ....

Sue:    85
Tim:    81
Darren:    77
Rachel:    76
Nick:    60

Another good win for Sue. I was never in this one, despite sitting in the Gondola for the second half of the game (we were all building away from the canal). This was the longest game of this one that any of us had played, as the Saboteur was getting used a lot, making it unnecessary to go pitch-dipping too often. I failed twice on 6-point plays, which cost me a bit of ground, while several beggars were stealing 6-pointers all around me!

And those few games were all we had time for, Thanks to those who came along, and see you next week.
