A nice even ten gamers in the shop this week .....

There were seven early arrivals ... and what do we do when there's seven of us ?
Nick:

Dave
C: 50
Rachel: 48
Darren: 45
Phil: 44
Louise: 28
Mark:

Lots of fun as always, this was a pretty close contest (well ... between five of us, anyway), with the last few cards determining who managed to get a last scoring in before the Sheriff made it back to Nottingham.
We were quickly up to the full 10, and so two groups of five were formed, with this game being played upstairs.
Rachel:
2 guys home
Neil:
1
Dave C: 1
Louise: 1
Dave
F: 1
This looks like it was pretty close. Then again, this game always is I suppose. Dave F was awarded last place, as it says "he died the most" on the score pad.
The other five stayed downstairs, and Sue and I opened our brand new copy of this excellent game, which we got for Christmas!
Nick:
15 ($173,000)
Mark:
15 ($139,000)
Darren: 14
Sue: 13
Phil:

This was a bizarre game of Power Grid. All the expensive plants came out in the first half of the game, which meant that Step 3 almost didn't happen. By the time the game began to end, the current market was full of weak power plants that no one wanted, which meant that whoever had the best plants at the time (Mark) was guaranteed the win. However, Phil bought a plant to deliberately shake the market up, which gave me the chance to upgrade my factories and fight Mark for the win. Luckily, I had a lot of cash saved up and pipped him on the tie-breaker. A good close fight, but an it's an odd game when you don't get to see Step 3 at all!
Meanwhile upstairs, they opted for a longer game ....
Rachel:
78
Dave
F: 76
Louise: 75
Neil: 73
Dave
C: 58
This one looks incredibly close. If you don't count Dave C, who - I'm guessing here - didn't get one of the major shows going, or possibly missed out on a lion or two ....
And downstairs, we needed something quick to finish off with ....
Mark:
140
Nick:
87
Darren: 86
Phil: 63
Sue:
40
This was a massive victory. I don't think any of us have seen anyone score quite as much as that before! Admittedly, Mark did get a little lucky with pulling one or two tiles from the bag, but his score does kind of reflect badly on the rest of us!
And finally, for the first time this year, we ended with our traditional closer ....
Sue:
11
Rachel:
6
Darren: 4
Dave F: 4
Nick: 1
Louise: 0
You know, there was a time when the good dwarves would try and find the gold, and the saboteurs would try and stop them. This one was a bit mad ... with several people pretending to be what they weren't, just to see what happened. And then you got the guys who thought they were winning, so switched sides when they thought the other result would be better for them! It was basically very chaotic and messy, but still pretty funny.
And that was all we had time for, Thanks to those who came along.
