How to find Shire Games

Thursday 20th March 2008

The night before a long weekend, and we expected it to be pretty quiet .... which it was!

Players:

Dave F, David S, Jackie, Mitch, Nick, Richard, Sue

Games Played:

Kuhhandel

The first five of us decided to go bidding and bluffing, while we waited to see if anyone else was coming ....

Dave F:    (350 + 650 + 90)    x3    =    3270
Nick:    (500 + 250 + 10)    x3    =    2280
Sue:    (800 + 160)    x2    =    1920
Richard:    (1000)    x1    =    1000
Mitch:    (40)    x1    =    40

A welcome return for Mitch, who has been away for about a year, and a welcome return into the red, as well! This was a lot of fun, as the animals were sold and traded around the table. Richard was saving as much cash as we was, buying very few animals, trying for the valuable set of horses. I was after three sets, and that might have been enough if Richard had managed to prise the cats away from Dave. However, Dave held firm and kept his cheap third set, multiplying his score well past everyone else's.

Power Grid

We decided that we wouldn't be seeing anyone else, and launched into something a little longer and more involved ...

Dave F:    15    (€162)
Nick:    14    (€243)
Sue:    14    (€226)
Richard:    14    (€200)
Mitch:    13    (€272)

This was an excellent game, as always, and very close all the way through. Dave was the only one who hadn't played the game before, so we'll put it down to beginner's luck! In what became the final round, we were all looking to buy plants that would help us power the most cities (which looked like it needed to be 14), but then Dave managed to get 15-value plants, and so we just had to wait to see if he could afford to connect to the 5 extra cities that he needed, which - it turns out - he could! A tight battle for the places, with Mitch missing out due to the fact that his power plants needed a little upgrading to power the cities he could easily have afforded.

Cutthroat Caverns

We were now up to seven players, but Sue decided to nip off and do some work, which left six of us to fight off some (rather nasty) nasties ....

Nick:    17
Jackie:    13
Richard:    7
David S:    6
Dave F:    4
Mitch:    15    (Deceased)

This is a really fun game, although after a few rounds it was looking very much like none of us were going to survive the full nine rounds, with more in-fighting than actual monster-fighting! We seemed to get a pretty hostile set of baddies, which made it all the more surprising that all of us survived as long as the 8th round. Sadly, it was in this penultimate round that Mitch - who had just taken the lead (which didn't go unnoticed, obviously) - bravely took the full brunt of an attack launched at one of his comrades, and died heroically. At the end of this round, it looked like I had taken the lead, and then became the focus of everyone's attentions, but luckily for me, I had saved a fair number of action cards for just such an occasion, and managed to deflect everything aimed at me!

And that really was all we had time for this week. Have a great weekend, and we'll see you all next Thursday.
