Thursday 10th January 2008
Enticed by the continued free parking outside the shop (which looks as if it's here to stay), we had another 10 people in the shop this week:
Players:
Darren, Dave C, Dave F, James, Neil, Nick, Rachel, Roj, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
We were quickly up to seven people, and decided to kick off with this fun game, playing up to 7 buildings to keep it shorter:
(District + 7 Buildings + 5 Colours)
Roj:
(21 + 4 + 0) 25
Darren:
(20 + 0 + 3) 23
Dave F: (21 + 2 + 0) 23
Sue: (20 + 0 + 0) 20
Nick:
(18 + 0 + 0) 18
Rachel: (18 + 0 + 0) 18
James:
(10 + 0 + 0) 10
You might be able to tell who was the most assassinated and most stolen from player at the table. Yes .... It was James; the man who decided to start the game by picking the Assassin and Thief as often as he could, and managed to upset a few people before they all decided to get their revenge. The first time he didn't take either of those characters was when he chose the King, shortly after announcing that the Assassin needed to pick on the King. A classic SG moment! A narrow win for Roj, who secured it by being the first to 7 buildings. I would have been amongst those in second if the Warlord hadn't destroyed my magic multi-coloured building in the final round!

Meanwhile, two more were here, and decided to play this quickie while they were waiting

This is the amended result, after rules clarifications! Looks like a pretty tight game ... although Can't Stop is often pretty close. Other than that, we know nothing about what went on in this one!
Thinking that the Can't Stop game still had some time to go, and now being 8 people downstairs, we went for a quick trip underground ....

This was a lot of fun, as always. I managed to leave the final mine on my own, picking up the winning gems on the way out. However, it was a pretty close game for most of it (apart from James, of course), with everyone in with a shout until the last mine. Good fun.
And so the ten of us were all available at the same time, and it was time to split into two groups...
Roj:
$137
Sue: $131
James: $126
Darren: $119 (8)
Nick: $119 (6)
This was a very tight game, and enjoyed by all of us. We worked out afterwards that if you took off the points for spreading your houses on all sides of the river, there would have only been a handful of points between the lot of us. However, Roj had made the best effort to spread his little green houses round the map, netting a massive $20 extra dollars at the end of the game.
Meanwhile upstairs, there was some Church-building going on ....

A very close score in this one, with a single point separating the top two. Tim was teaching this one, so it ,looks like he did a little too good of a job!
After Hermagor, it was off to a different fantasy land to play this excellent dice-based game.
Roj:
43
Darren: 37
James: 35
Nick: 33
Sue: 19
Roj did a pretty good job on the rest of us in this one. Despite choosing not to build in the second round (just to get the envoy), he then went on a building frenzy and ended up with by far the most, completing the third and fourth rows and giving himself a pretty impressive army before even recruiting a soldier! Darren had the Town Hall and Embassy built by half way through the game, but the points he bought were never quite enough to catch Roj. James and I were pretty much level all the way through, although we were on different paths. James' mistake seemed to be building a Statue a little early in the game, while I was a long way from making the most of my extra die from the Markets (although I did roll 23 once, I also managed a roll of 12 with 5 dice!). Sue was never in the game, always rolling pretty low, but hardly ever low enough to get first choice!
Those that were left upstairs went off to Pompeii to see if maybe the volcano wouldn't erupt this time .....
Rachel:
13
Dave F: 12
Tim: 11
Don't know much about this one ..... But those are the highest scores I've ever seen in a game of Pompeii!
Can't Stop (2)
And to end the evening upstairs, another dice-rolling session ....
Tim:
3
Dave F: 2
Rachel: 2
And another win for Tim in his second ever game of Can't Stop!
And that was all there was time for this week .... Thanks to those who came along.
