A bit of a busy week this week ....
Players:
Andy, David F-F, Faye, Haydn, Mark L, Mark P, Mel, Neil C, Nick, Rich, Simon, Tim
Games Played:
Neil and Mark were in pretty early, and so they immediately had a crack at the new Mr. Jack characters ...
Neil: Escaped as JackThis went the distance, with Neil managing to escape after 8 round of fairly incompetent detecting on the part of the other seven characters!
Five more of us were in and looking for something to do, so I introduced them to this gorgeous-looking fun card game ...
Andy: 19
Nick: 18
Faye: 17
David: 16
Rich: 16
This was a really tight game. Every time we tried to blackmail someone into keeping an animal (because the person on their left really wanted it), they just passed it on anyway, so it was quite a friendly game really. My two-animal strategy failed me at the end, as I only had 9 doggie medals, and the 10th would have given me six more points. A fun game, made more fun by the excellent artwork.
We were up to 12 players now, and split into three groups of four.
(Hindenburg + Airships + Expansions)
Faye: (15 +
17 + 3) 35
Rich: (11 + 1 +
2) 14
David: (0 + 5 + 5) 10
Andy: (0 + 3 + 4) 7
I don't know a lot about this particular game, although Sue and I have played the game since at home. And all I can say is that (apart from Faye) those are some pretty lousy scores. It looks like the other three were all trying to improve their dice and get themselves a nice little Airship company, without paying any attention to what might give them points! Either that, or Faye is really really good at this game!
Four more of us went dice-rolling in the city of Kingsburg ...
Mark
L: 40
Neil: 39
Nick: 34
Mark P:
26
This is a great game, which will prove very popular once we can get some copies for the shop! Roll your dice, influence the King's advisors, and build your buildings. Sounds simple, but plays very smoothly and there are a few different ways to go about trying to win. I had an extra dice every turn, but this kept leaving me in "last choice" position, which started to cost me. In the very final round, I could have built an extra building for 7 points, but I'd have been at the mercy of the enemies ... and I'd seen what they could do! A good win for Neil, who was neck & neck with Mark pretty much all the way.
And the other four went off to the harbour to load some ships ....
Haydn:
111
Mel: 104
Tim: 33
Simon: 23
I know nothing about this one. Although I do know that it is a game where money is tight, and you need to make sure you don't get skint while playing. Apparently that happened, but was fixed by quickly giving everyone a bit more cash! Even so, this seems to have been a two-way contest!
The four Kingsburgers kept with the "King" theme and went off to Siam ....
Mark
L:
Nick: Won
Mark P:
Neil: Lost
This is a game where four play in partnerships, and it was incredibly close throughout. Eventually, Siam fell to the British, and the score between the two teams was tied, so Mark and I won the game by virtue of having played the last action card! Woohoo!
-----
Hmmm ..... Just noticed the score sheet is missing a couple of games. Here's a grab from Andy's website:
David: (35 +5 castle +5 amulets) 45
All the games seemed to be on different finishing times, so while King of Siam and Thebes were under way, the four of us got stuck in to some looting and pillaging.
Rich got off to an early lead, with lots of nice stone and clay in his castle, which made him a target for the rest of us. Meanwhile I was getting mainly grass and wood and hoping no-one would notice how close I was to finishing my castle... Faye too, was keeping quiet and building up her castle.
There was a lot of fighting between Dave and Rich as they tried to take revenge on losing resources to each other.... this ultimately worked in Dave's favour... and on the one occasion that both Rich and I tried to raid Dave, we wiped each other out before getting to his castle!
With a finished castle and some high quality materials, Dave finished first, just 3 point ahead of Faye. I was third and couple of points ahead of Rich, who didn't manage to complete his castle, and lost points for using all his amulets.
Andy: -9
Faye: -14
David: -17
Rich:
-26
Dave managed to cut Rich off at the middle, and I was able to block him on my side, effectively hemming him in, while Faye and Rich did a good job of limiting the space Dave had. This brought it down to a close game between Faye and I, which I just managed to win.

And the container people went digging ....
(Artifacts + Exhibitions + Congress + Knowledge)
Simon: (54 +
5 + 6 + 5) 71
Haydn: (36 + 0 + 5 +
5) 46
Tim: (34 + 0 + 6 + 5) 45
Mel: (21 + 0 + 6 +
5) 32
Another fairly one-sided contest by the looks of it. I don't know a lot more than that, although I admit we were trying to hurry the game to a conclusion, as time was slipping away ...
And while that was going on, the remaining seven players ended with "the usual" ...
Mark
L: 13
Faye: 6
Rich: 6
Neil: 3
Nick: 3
David: 0
Mark P: 0
Another one-sided affair, as Mark remembered what he was supposed to be doing (for a change) and won all three rounds!
And that was the lot for another week. Thanks to all who came along.
