A much quieter week this week, with just four of us in the pub ....
Players:
Mark L,
Neil C, Nick, Sue
Games Played:
Three of us in early, and I opened this one up before anyone could object ...
Nick: 70
Mark: 60
Sue: 31
This was a fun game - Mark went well in front early on (it looked like), managing to collect the eight different monuments in the shortest time ever. However, in the final round, I was left as last man in, with a couple of God tiles and a bit of room on the Ra track, and I managed to collect pretty much exactly what I needed to steal the Pharaoh points from Mark, and that 10-point swing was exactly what was required!
Neil arrived, and Sue selected this fun tea-collecting game, which we all fancied a go at ...
Neil:
101
Mark: 98
Nick: 89
Sue: 86
This was the closest game of this that we'd had so far. Each time someone shipped a few crates of tea, there was a concerted effort to knock them down a peg or two before their income got out of hand. Therefore, a lot of smaller shipments left the harbour, keeping all of the scores pretty close. Neil was always a couple of points ahead it seemed, and eventually none of us could reel him in, although Mark got pretty close!
Neil had done an excellent translation job on his copy of Agricola, but had never played with more than one person, so this was a natural choice once we'd decided no one else was joining us ...
Mark:
45
Neil: 34
Nick: 31
Sue: 24
This was a great game, although the only two who had played the game with more than one person and had used the cards before came a startling third and fourth! Mark had what seemed like quite a nice deal, and pretty soon was able to squeeze seven meals out of one tiny piece of grain, which helped a lot when it came to feeding his family! I was trying to concentrate on herding animals, but I did have to throw a fair number of sheep in the over just to survive. Neil was trying to employ as many people as possible, as he was basically getting them for free. Sadly for Neil, one of his employees gave Mark a few extra points at the end of the game, giving him a nice comfortable lead.
Not much time left now, but enough to squeeze in a couple more games ...
Mark: (0 +
10 + 1 + 1) 12
Neil: (24 + 26 + 0 +
0) 50
Nick: (33 + 25 + 4 + 10) 72
Sue: (31 + 0 + 17 +
28) 76
This is an oldie that Mark brought with him, and it's a great game for the pub. I was the only player who didn't manage to win a single round, although winning the final two rounds didn't help Neil much either, as Mark was doing a pretty good job at reading everyone else. Sue had one good round where she caught us all for a load of points, but sadly did pretty poorly in the other three rounds. Overall, a pretty comfortable win for Mark!
And finally, we just had time for this quickie ....
(Cats + Mice)
Mark: (8 +
51) 59
Sue: (36 +
2) 38
Neil: (18 + 12) 30
Nick: (8 + 3) 11
Mark was having a pretty good night, as he won
this one by a fair margin as well. I seemed to get hammered very early on by
bidding on the first couple of lots before everyone ducked out and left me with
a sack full of rubbish. Mark hardly bought anything, but stored up a handful of cash
mice. Sue and Neil actually bothered to bid on the decent stuff, but didn't keep
enough chips in hand to get close to Mark's score.
And that took us to 11pm and closing time on a very quiet night in the pub! See you all again next week.
