How to find Shire Games

Thursday 18th October 2007

From the pen of Sue:

A manageable number showed up for games tonight.  Although not a lot of games got played, there seemed to be less standing around than normal…

Players:

Dave C, Dave F, James, Mark L, Mark P, Mel, Mike, Neil, Phil, Roj, Sue, Tim

Games Played:

Kablamo

The first five to arrive jumped right in but the recorded scores are a bit sketchy ...

Mark L:    1st
Dave:    2nd
Phil:     No comment
Dave F:    4th
Mel:    No comment

This is a game of Russian roulette (minus the real guns) in which each player is given a board depicting the (rotating) barrel of a gun with a space for each of the six chambers.  A random game, good for a bit of a laugh it seems.

Lost Cities

Two more showed up and while Sue was having her tea, they went off in search of Lost Cities.  The score is after 3 hands:

Roj:    99
James:    98

This game is never a disappointment, especially one that ends up this close!

Cutthroat Caverns

This one was requested so four explorers hit the caves…

James:    16
Neil:    15
Dave F:    Dead (11)
Roj:    Dead (5).

Starfarers of Catan

Four people were keen to try this game so they set it up and started reading the rules.  Before the game actually began a late-comer arrived and actually purchased the expansion to the game so that he and I could join in.

Mark L:    12
Phil:    11
Mel:    10
Dave C:    9
Sue:    9
Tim:    8

Unfortunately, with 6 players this game tends to take a long time.  Due to time constraints, we had to finish our space exploration early and declare Mark L the winner.

Caylus

While 6 of us were slogging through space, the upstairs explorers left the caverns, were joined by another latecomer and headed for the market town of Caylus.

Neil:    68
Mark P:    67
Dave F:    62
James:   43
Roj:    41

Rumour has it that Dave F spent the whole game in the pub.  It was a close finish and a good win for Neil who, by the way, doesn’t win very often.

Drakon

Neil had to head off (elated from his Caylus win no doubt) so while the downstairs folk were still lost in space, the remaining four went back to torment the dragon in a quick game of Drakon…

Dave F:    10
James:    5
Mark P:   4
Roj:    1

Quite a convincing win by Dave F.  Looks like spending the whole game of Caylus in the pub did him some good.

And that was it.  Not a lot of games got played, but a good time was had by all.   Thanks to everybody for showing up.  Nick is back next week – woohoo!
