How to find Shire Games

Thursday 11th October 2007

Another pretty busy evening in the shop this week. We really must come up with a better "game selection" system to limit the amount of standing around .....

Players:

Darren, Dave C, Dave F, Jonathan, Mark L, Mark P, Mel, Mike, Nick, Phil, Rachel B, Steve P, Sue, Tim H

Games Played:

Cartagena 2

We had five early birds who were quick to get started ...

Mark L:    6
Dave:    5
Jonathan:    5
Steve:    5
Mike:    4

Not a fan of the original Cartagena, Mark decided this was a much better version. Mainly caused by the change from "move yourself back to gain stuff" to "move others forward to gain stuff", this looks like it may see a little more play around here!

Kuhhandel

The next five of us were ready to go, and I'd been trying to get this one played for a few weeks now ...

Rachel:    (1410 x 3)    4230
Nick:    (1150 x 2)    2300
Darren:    (700 x 3)    2100
Mel:    (500 x 1)    500
Phil:    (90 x 1)    90

This was a lot of fun, with the addition of a gavel from a different game that Phil had brought with him helping to hurry the auctions along. Phil was actually replaced about two-thirds of the way through with Dave C, but he was already in a bad position when he came in, so Dave has asked to be excluded from the score sheet! A good win for Rachel, who always seemed to have just enough cash to allow her to steal all my animals!

Vinci

Six people disappeared upstairs with this "biggie", which then kept them occupied for most of the evening ...

Mark L:    103
Dave F:    99
Jonathan:    99
Phil:    96
Mike:    95
Steve:    91

I know nothing about this one. Mark was grumbling about how everyone would pick on the little blue guys when someone needed picking on ... but it seems they had good reason, as he still managed to win the thing!

Aqua Romana

There were seven of us downstairs now, so we split into two groups ....

Sue:    25
Dave C:    19
Tim:    16
Rachel:    14

This was going on right by the side of me, but I didn't see a lot of what was going on (too busy losing at something else!). Looks like a fairly good win for Sue, though.

On the Underground

This was the choice of the other three of us ....

Darren:    50
Nick:    48
Mel:    47

As you can see, this was a pretty tight game. One of my three tracks got bogged down, which stopped some of the points I hoped to get from connections. Mel had some track in some pretty useful places, but the tickets kept coming out in an order which took the passenger along Darren's black line a bit too much for our liking. When it came to the last turns, all I could do was get a single point ahead of Darren, who managed to take the lead back on his turn before Mel scored a bunch of extra connection points, but just not quite enough to grab the win. A very close game.

Tsuro (1)

While we were finishing on the Underground, a quick game of Tsuro was called for ....

Sue:    Winner!
Dave C:    2nd
Mark P:    3rd=
Rachel:    3rd=
Tim:    First to die

Tsuro (2)

And then we finished On the Underground, and couldn't resist an eight-player game ....

Rachel:    Winner!
Tim:    2nd
Mark P:    3rd=
Nick:    3rd=
Dave C:    5th
Darren:    6th
Mel:    7th
Sue:    First to die

Vikings

We split back into a four and a three ....

Rachel:    55
Mel:    39
Tim:    38

Another good win for Rachel, who looks like she had the fishermen sewn up in this great game. Hmm ... I haven't played this in a while .... must have another game soon.

Die Händler

And the four of us pushed some wagons around the board ....

Mark P:    Oldermann    ($2300)
Sue:    Oldermann    ($2100)
Nick:    Oldermann    ($100)
Darren:    Patrizier

I won't ever have a bad word to say about this game ... It's just one of those that I always enjoy playing. This was a great game, although I still didn't see many of those useful green cards! Mark kind of snuck under the radar a little here, as we were all thinking Sue was ahead and trying to hold her back. Great game ... enjoyed by all.

Sitting Ducks Gallery

The other group had time for a couple of "closers" ...

Dave F:    1st
Phil:    2nd
Steve:    3rd
Mark L:    4th

No idea how this one went. But it's always nice to see Mark come last in something!

Dancing Dice

And finally ..... Just when you thought that we'd gone a week without this one:

Dave F:    1 Stamina Left
Mark L:    Fell in the last dance-off
Steve:    Fell in the last dance-off
Tim:    4th
Rachel:    First to drop

This was a pretty close finish, with three players in the final dance-off, all of them with 1 stamina point each.

And that was all there was for another week. Thanks to all who came along. Next week is "as per normal", but Sue's in charge (no change there then) as I am away.
