Just the six of us in the pub this week. Must have been a busy weekend :)
Players:
David F-F, Mark L, Neil C, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first four in played a quick game of this interesting new one ...
(Points + People)
Neil: (23 + 12) 35Neil and Rich showed us that it pays to keep an eye on which people you were collecting, as Sue and I both ended the game with two of each one (you get six points for three of a kind). Rich wiped the floor with us when it came to building palaces, but Neil's loyalty to two of the three families gave him the narrow win.
We were now up to six players, and split into two groups of three for a couple of games ...
Rich:
40
Nick: 34
Sue: 33
This is always a fun game. Rich set off with some goals in mind, and quickly built the farms for an extra dice for the rest of the game. We all lost the first two fights, which was kind of embarrassing, but that's what you get when you let Sue roll for the King's Army. Sue and I both built the Cathedral, but we didn't have enough resources at the end of the game to make the most of it, and eventually Rich's dice advantage proved just too strong.
And the other three were off collecting taxes ....
Mark:
87
David: 67
Neil: 64
I don't know a lot about this one, although I have played it recently and it is a very good game. I think with three players, it's quite short as there are less cities to fight over, before each tax collector grabs what they can. Mark's experience in his one previous play seemed to pay dividends here!
A quick re-mix of the two groups, and we were off again ....
David: 52
Sue: 47
Neil: 44
Again I don't know much about this one, despite it happening about a foot from where I was sitting (I blame the full-on concentration required to build a successful spaceship). Another close-scoring game of Pillars, though, with only eight points separating first and last place.
We left the other three to build Cathedrals while we were busy building rather dodgy-looking spacecraft and flying on some dangerous missions ...
Mark: 96
Nick: 88
Rich: 84
This game is a load of fun, even when a meteor punches a huge hole in the side of your ship. After a pretty uneventful first mission, Rich suffered terribly in the second when a meteor made a rather small hole in a vital part of his ship, and he saw half the ship drift off into space. Mark built an incredibly slow ship for the final mission, but limped around with enough goods to seal the win by a few space credits.
And to end the evening, the six of us got back together for a couple of short ones ...
Nick: 20
Neil: 18
Sue: 10
David: 0
Mark: 0
Rich: 0
Now it may look like a few people stayed in the mines a little too long ... But in reality, the mines were just proving extremely dangerous. I managed to run out of the last mine with 14 gems moments before a rock fall collapsed it, leaving Neil trapped inside with a couple of gems less than me!
And finally .... what else do 6 Shire Gamers do when they get together?
Nick:
1 Stamina left.
David: Last to drop
Rich: 3rd=
Mark: 3rd=
Sue: 3rd=
Neil: First to drop
In a clean sweep of the more skilful games of the evening, I managed to get a very rare win at this fun dice game. It was a very close fight all the way, with Neil dropping in the round before the next three all fell. After that, it was just David and I, and he had two points to my one. Thankfully (thanks to a very lucky re-roll where I had to get a double one and did so) I did a rather impressive "Pure Rockin' Tango" in the final round, costing David two points, as all he could manage was a fairly ordinary Tango!
And that was all we managed this week. Thanks to those who came along.
