Another full house in the shop this week. There was so much going on all the time all over the place, I haven't a clue about some of the games. In fact, looking at the sheet, I don't even remember some of the games being played!
Players:
Darren, Dave F, Gavin, Jonathan, Mark L, Mark P, Mel, Mike, Nick, Phil, Rachel B, Rachel G, Richard, Roj, Sue, Tim
Games Played:
Mike cracked open his brand new copy of this one, and the first four through the door went exploring ....
Mark L: 95I think this one took a little longer than the guys were expecting, although it was still enjoyed by everyone in the game. Mark starts the evening with a good win!
The next five of us decided on this fun little card game ....
Roj:
(11 + 6 + 0 + 2 + 2) 21
Mel: (2 + 8 + 4 + 10 +
0) 24
Jonathan: (5 + 0 + 7 + 5 + 9) 26
Nick: (8 + 4 + 0 + 8 + 12) 32
Sue: (2 + 9 + 15 + 3 +
7) 36
This game is always a lot of fun, even when you get done over in the final round! Roj started a bit shakily, but came back strongly in the last three rounds to grab the win.
With more people on the way, five of us grabbed another quickie...
(Sheep + Specials + Dogs - Black Sheep)
Roj: (34 + 24 + 8 - 7) 59This is a fun dice-rolling game, and we were quite surprised how close we were to the winning score, as everyone had assumed Roj was miles ahead. Two in a row for Roj .... wait 'til we get to the games of skill!
Two more arrivals, so Sue and Mel joined them and threw them into the volcano ....
Gavin: 8A good win for Gavin in what seems to be a low-scoring game; I guess the volcano erupted a little earlier than people expected. I'm not sure quite how Mel managed to only have three guys thrown in when Sue had eight!
Tim and Richard arrived and had a quick game of San Juan. I can't find any record of the scores though.
The Cave Troll crowd were finally done, and so they recruited one other and went off to ... erm ... wherever this game is set.
Mark L: (18 + 11 + 47) 76Another good win for Mark. I haven't the faintest idea what happens in this one, but that seems to be a pretty impressive final round.
Time to play something a little "meatier" for the people downstairs ....
Darren: 138Hmm. I'm not sure quite what happened here from my point of view, but I managed to mess up the market in the very first round, despite drawing the player to my right (Roj) as the starting player. Richard and Darren were both playing a pretty good game, and it looked like it was a fight between them and Roj, as Sue and I both got a little messed up in the buying phase! Richard scored a shed-load of points from production buildings at the end, but sadly he & I both had neglected the main road a little, costing us five points each. It didn't make a whole lot of difference to my final position, but it cost Richard the tie with Darren, which - although we didn't check at the time - might have given him the game on the tie breaker.
And the other five people went off to Egypt ....
Gavin: 38A second straight victory for Gavin, who was here for the first time tonight ..... He may have to be barred in the very near future. :-)
After a trip to Egypt, a quick comfort break was in order ....
Rachel G: 20Wow! These scores were a bit spread out. My guess is everyone was after a little revenge on Gavin after two straight wins. It looks like his toilets hardly had a customer all night ....
Something amuses me about following the toilet game with Klunker, but I haven't the faintest idea what it is ...
Dave:
20
Tim: 12
Mark L: 11
Phil: 10
A solid win for Dave in this fun jewellery-trading card game from the designer of Bohnanza.
The final "big" game of the evening had four players off to Egypt (again) ...
Darren:
39
Roj:
37 (9 pyramids)
Nick: 37 (8 pyramids)
Richard: 33
What a tight game this was! As we did the final scoring, it ended with me on 35 and everyone else on 33 points. All that was left was the 6, 4 and 2 points available for cash in hand. Darren had been the most frugal and saved a bunch, giving him the six points. Roj grabbed the 4, I grabbed the 2 and Richard was almost skint, leaving himself on 33. This gave Darren the win in a close-fought game by two whole point from 2nd and 3rd!
The penultimate game of the evening was a quick 3-player affair ....
Mark
P: 60
Rachel B: 65
Gavin: 94
A close-looking game, although there are some pretty high scores in there!
And for the final game of the night, it was more from Uwe Rosenberg as the bean farmers went into space ....
Mark
L: 34
Dave: 29
Mark P: 26
Rachel B: 26
This one seemed to go down well, although I didn't really pay much attention to what was going on!
And that was that for another week .... Thirteen games played in total. Thanks all for coming.
