How to find Shire Games

Monday 20th August 2007

Just the six of us gamers in the pub this week ... Well, it was the day after a weekend packed full of gaming - I think most people's brains needed a night off.

Players:

David F-F, Koert, Mark L, Nick, Rich, Sue

Games Played:

Dancing Dice (1)

Only seven games were played in the pub tonight, and this was four of them! This is partly due to Sue and I not having time to unload all of our games from the convention, and just bringing whatever had been packed in the bag. Six-player games were few and far between .....

Nick:    2 Lives Left
Mark:    Last to drop
Sue:    First to drop

Dancing Dice (2)

The rematch .....

Sue:    2 Lives left
Mark:    Last to drop
Nick:    First to drop

A pretty even spread, with Sue and I coming first in one game and last in the other, while Mark claimed two second places. This is a fun dice game with a good theme.

Gold Digger

We were now up to four players, and grabbed another quickie while waiting to see who was coming along ...

Nick:    13
Mark:    10
Rich:    8
Sue:    7

Another fun little filler, where I got a little lucky seeing four of the same kind of character, allowing me (almost) complete exclusivity on their mine.

Pecunia non Olet

A game about managing public toilets .... how could we refuse :)

David:    20
Nick:    16
Sue:    12
Mark:    11
Rich:    11
Koert:    10

This was a load of fun. Of course, the game itself is pretty straightforward, but becomes extremely funny - bordering on the hysterical really - thanks to the massive range of gags available about the subject matter. And we made sure that we'd squeezed them all out in by the end of the game! I promise to get some copies of this in the shop soon.

Gloria Mundi

This was the other six-player game we had with us ...

Koert:    Reached Carthage
David:    2 Steps behind
Nick:    4 Steps behind
Mark:    5 Steps behind
Rich:    5 Steps behind
Sue:    9 Steps behind

This was definitely the closest 6-player game of this that we'd ever had, and was a very tense one as the end approached. Mark had taken a huge lead about half way through the game, but was slowly being reeled in by the rest of us, as we finally managed to destroy his powerful buildings. David made great use of the walls, which had all come out early, and after a few rounds had far more cards than the rest of us in play. Koert played an excellent game, timing his run to perfection, as he may have started to come back towards the pack in a few more turns. I think we saw the Goth move more than he ever has before as well. A really great game .... It reminded me why I like it so much.

Dancing Dice (3)

And so to finish off, back to the dancing ...

Koert:    1 Life left
David:    2nd
Mark:    3rd
Rich:    4th
Sue:    5th
Nick:    First to drop.

Dancing Dice (4)

Last time. I promise.

David:    1 Life left
Sue:    2nd
Koert:    3rd
Nick:    4th
Rich:    5th
Mark:    6th

This last one was quite interesting: Mark was the first to go, and he got knocked out tap dancing while three other players were boogieing (this makes much more sense if you've played the game). Koert and Sue both got eliminated in the final dance off against David. Sue was attempting a rather tricky Tango, while Koert was doing whatever dance 16 is (I forget).

And that was closing time. A fun night, at the end of a very busy weekend of gaming.
