How to find Shire Games

Monday 10th September 2007

Seven of us in this week .....

Players:

Gordon, Jo, Mark H, Mark L, Nick, Rich, Sue

Games Played:

TransEuropa

The first four in were quickly into a game (before Sue and I even got there!) ...

Jo:    10
Mark H:    0
Mark L:    0
Rich:    0

This was a pretty comprehensive victory for Jo, as shown by the scores! The game lasted for three rounds, but Jo finished the final round so much quicker than the rest, that she destroyed all their scores and became the only one with points left at the end!

Aquadukt

The other three of us tries to pick a quickie to bring the timings together. It didn't quite happen, though ...

Sue:    39
Gordon:    36
Nick:    32

Sue was miles ahead of Gordon and I when it came to placing her tiles, which meant she was getting some 3-house tiles on the board in pre-watered positions while Gordon and I were messing around with canals and placing our single houses. Sue did lose a few at the end, but managed to keep enough on the board to claim the win.

R-Eco

The TransEuropa gang went for this quick filler, trying to time this to end when our game did ...

Jo:    (12 - 2)    10
Rich:    (5 + 3)    8
Mark L:    (10 - 5)    5
Mark H:    (0 - 2)    -2

Another win for Jo, who was on a bit of a roll. I don't know much about this one, although that is the first minus score we've seen! And the game finished at the same time as Aquadukt, so we had a little re-shuffle.

Vikings

Three people went off to Scandinavia ....

Jo:    57
Rich:    54
Mark H:    47

And Jo wins her third consecutive game! No idea what went on in this one, I'm afraid.

Rotterdam

And the other four of us went to Holland ....

Sue:    19
Mark L:    18
Nick:    12
Gordon:    8

This is a game full of messing up other people. Mark and I foolishly set off quite strongly, and then got picked on for the rest of the game as Gordon and Sue slowly caught up. And they were slow to catch up, because Mark and I had nothing better to do than pick on them! Sue did start getting some arrivals in the ports, but could never find the cards she needed to complete her assignments! In the end, it was Mark who was way ahead in assignments and ended the game, but Sue had managed to store up so many products that she had enough to pip him by a single point. A fun game that will take longer the more evil your group is!

Bohnanza

Vikings was over, so the group of three went bean farming ...

Mark H:    27
Jo:    26
Rich:    23

A pretty close game looking at the scores, and one that Jo managed not to win, which made a nice change!

High Society

We were down to four, but without enough time for a full game, so we thought we'd try a couple of little ones ...

Sue:    18    ($51,000,000)
Nick:    12    ($58,000,000)
Mark L:    7    ($64,000,000)
Rich:    12    ($50,000,000)

This was a fun little bidding game. As no one knows exactly when the game is going to end, you have to constantly watch you're not last in the money department. Sue managed to accrue the most points, but only survived the "poorest loses" rule by a million. Otherwise, Rich would have taken the victory, instead of coming last!

Volle Wolle

And finally, a dice game ....

Nick:    (50 - 5 + 12 + 1)    58
Mark L:    (40 + 9)    49
Rich:    (51 - 12 - 5)    34
Sue:    (31 + 9 - 9 + 1)    32

This one is a lot of fun, although it ultimately comes down to the dice rolls. Bid higher than anyone else and you get to go first, and then you need to roll what you bid. Great artwork and fun components as well .... Another good game in the "Heck Meck" sized box.

And that was all for another week. Thanks to all who came along. Oh! Sue and I won't be there next Monday!
