Eight gamers in the pub this week.
Players:
David F-F, Faye, Gordon, Mark L, Neil C, Nick, Rich, Sue
Games Played:
The first two in headed straight for Egypt and a race for the King's Chamber ...
Mark:
Reached the King's Chamber
Rich:
One Chamber behind.
This looks like a really fun little game that I must try sometime soon. When I arrived, Mark was miles ahead, but then next time I looked, Rich was ahead and looking like the winner, although Mark made the most of not having the Mummy, and just beat him to it.
We were four now, and Rich had never had the chance to play one of our current favourites. Until now, that is ...
Sue:
12
Mark: 6
Nick: 3
Rich: 0
I'm not sure what it is, but whenever we go down a mine or dungeon of some sort, Rich has to come back with no treasure at all! This game was no exception, although Rich managed to create himself a profitable little piece of dungeon all to himself, there were enough "steal a coin" spaces to stop it doing him any good. The Dragon had a chance of holding back Sue near the end, but he was attracted by the target on my forehead instead, and didn't spot how much treasure she had!
We were now up to six players, which was the perfect number to cram ourselves inside a tiny boat with loot, weapons and chum!
(Survival + Stuff + Loved one + Hated one)
Sue (Lady
Lauren): (8 + 10 + 6 + 0) 24
Rich (Sir
Stephen): (7 + 8 + 5 + 3) 23
Mark (The Captain): (5 + 4 + 8 +0) 17
Neil (First Mate): (4 + 1 + 7 + 0) 12
Gordon (Frenchy): (6 + 0 + 4 + 0) 10
Nick (The Kid): (0 + 0 + 0 +
0) 0
This is a fun and rather silly little game, with plenty of backstabbing and double-crossing. If you're the smallest guy on the boat, it really helps if there's someone else on there who loves you; being in love with yourself can be a disadvantage, especially if you start stealing things from everyone, including the guy who hates you! Before very long, I was thrown overboard with only a bucket of chum for company! Everyone else, in the meantime, got away pretty much injury-free. The Captain came close to unconsciousness before his secret lover gave him the kiss of life in the form of a medical kit. Lady Lauren grabbed herself some jewels which she managed to keep secret (well ... once the kid was dead, why not?), which doubled her "stuff" points and gave here the win.
While we were trying to get to shore, another quick 2-player game of this one happened ...
Faye:
Reached the King's Chamber
David:
One Chamber behind.
This one always seems to be a pretty close finish!
We split into two group of four, and this one is still proving incredibly popular with the group ...
(Artifacts + Exhibitions + Congress + Knowledge)
Faye:
(37 + 5 + 1 + 10) 53
Sue: (42 + 9 +
0 + 0) 51
Gordon: (21 + 0 + 6 + 13) 40
David: (31 + 0 + 3 +
3) 37
It sounded like Gordon was tonight's unlucky archaeologist when it came to finding nothing, despite having far more knowledge about what he was doing. Sue managed a huge haul of stuff without having much specialist knowledge in any areas, which makes me think it came from a whole load of general knowledge and rumours. A close finish saw Faye edge out Sue thanks to a couple of string research areas.
And the other four were up for something a little more spicy ....
(VP + Colonies + Expeditions + Cash + Single Plantations + Tiles)
Nick:
(22 + 10 + 7 + 0 + 0 + 5) 44
Mark: (28 + 10
+ 1 + 0 + 3 + 0) 42
Neil: (22 + 10 + 0 + 3 + 0 + 4) 39
Rich: (20 + 10 + 3 + 0 + 0 +
0) 33
This was Rich's first game, and he suffered in the first few rounds of not knowing what the value of anything was, although despite that he managed to make some pretty agonising decisions for Mark and I. Mark always seemed to be auctioning the popular tile, although he didn't end up with the most cash, as he liked to spend it when he could as well. I only bought one plantation, which I thought would leave me in trouble, but my early colonisations and extra actions served me well. The game was swung with my very last action of drawing three cards that game me an extra six expedition points. A really enjoyable game.
And finally, just enough time for seven of us to go mining (keep an eye on Rich's score0
Neil:
15
Mark: 13
Faye: 12
Nick: 10
Sue: 6
David: 5
Rich:
0
This was possibly the lowest scoring game of Diamant ever, as each mine quickly collapsed thanks to the early appearance of all five disasters, one mine after another. Rich was still glory-seeking , and hung around a little too long, whereas the rest of us at least managed to get out once or twice. Sue was teased into staying in the mine longer than she has done of late, and it worked well as she got killed on a couple of occasions! A good win for Neil, the only one of us who hadn't played before!
And that took us to closing time. Thanks for coming along.
