How to find Shire Games

Thursday 2nd August 2007

Eleven of us in the shop all told this week, so a fair few games got played! Sadly, I was suffering with a bad back at the time, so I wasn't playing a whole lot of attention to what was going on! Here's a rough outline ...

Players:

Andy, Dave F,  Julian, Lesley, Louise, Mark L, Mark P, Mel, Nick, Stewart, Sue

Games Played:

Sitting Ducks Gallery

We had early arrivals this week (in other words, Sue and I were running behind), and so the first six nipped upstairs for some silliness ...

Lesley:    Winner
Julian:    2nd (last to die)
Louise:    3rd
Andy:    4th
Dave:    5th
Stewart:    First to die.

This looks like the three "regular" gamers decided to pick on (and basically eliminate) each other, leaving the top three positions all in the family!

Drakon

Five more were downstairs, and so the first of the Drakons got underway ....

Sue:    10
Mel:    8
Nick:    8
Mark P:    7
Mark L:    5

Another fun game of this light (and nasty) dungeon-crawler. Mel had actually managed to collect 5 coin tiles, while Mark P and I both had 4, but Sue declared the win while picking up her fourth tile, and took it with two 2's and two 3's

Drakon (2)

The upstairs group of six saw how much fun we were having, and pulled out their own Drakon set!

Stewart:    10
Andy:    9
Dave:    8
Julian:    5
Lesley:    5
Louise:    0

Don't know anything about this one really, but it looks like the gamers got revenge for their humiliation at the Sitting Ducks game earlier!

Serengeti

While we were trying to get all the games to finish at the same time, four of us had a go at this quick auction game ...

Mark P:    (24 + 3)    27
Mel:    17
Sue:    12
Nick:    4

Mark hammered us all at this one, thanks to getting some early wins and then raking in the cash from others' bids. I made the mistake of deliberately bidding more than I had to try and up the price, only to get caught with having to pay it, costing me a card. I never seemed to be in this one at all really ...

Just 4 Fun

Three of us managed to squeeze this one in while we were waiting for the upstairs crowd to finish

Nick:    4 in a row
Mark P:
Mel:    Both lost

This was a little anti-climactic, as I managed to get a completely unchallenged four in a row, thank to Mark and Mel both having bad mental arithmetic sets of cards.

Pickomino

We now split into a four and a seven, with the four playing this fun little dice game upstairs ...

Julian:    10
Lesley:    3
Louise:    3
Sue:    2

I don't know anything about this one, I'm afraid ... but that is a pretty one-sided score!

Shadows over Camelot

And the seven of us donned our armour and went to seek out the traitor ....

Andy:
Dave:
Mark L:
Mark P
Mel:
Nick:
Stewart:    All won by 9 White Swords to 3 Black ones.

This was a load of fun, and - as it turned out - the traitor was the one card to remain in the box, which was a relief to Sue who almost joined in the game when the good guys were 6-0 ahead! Considering we were all on the same side, the game proved quite tricky to win, with us being pretty close to disaster on more than one occasion! We saw a lot of Morgan, and we had to discard Excalibur at one point to save the lives of two of our knights! However, eventually we were relieved to be defeated by the Dragon and fill the table with swords!

Saboteur

And finally ..... there were 8 of us mining for four rounds of sabateuriality ...

Mark L:    9
Mark P:    8
Andy:    7
Mel:    6
Stewart:    6
Dave:    5
Nick:    5
Sue:    0

This game is always fun, even when your bad back makes it hard to wield a pickaxe. The good guys came out on top in the first two mines, although some serious circumventing was necessary in the second one. The bad guys came out on top in the third, but then the good guys bounced back in the last, but sadly that was my first attempt at being a saboteur! The only time Sue was fighting for the good cause, the saboteurs came out on top quite comfortably. Not sure what that signifies .....

And that's was all for another week. Thanks to all those who came along, and we'll see you soon.
